Police have arrested a man in connection with a shooting that left two people wounded late Monday outside a Virginia Beach nightclub.
The shooting was reported at 11:09 p.m. at Cheetah’s Gentlemen’s Club in the 1800 block of Diamond Springs Road, said Adam Bernstein, a police spokesman. Investigators believe the two victims were standing outside the club when a man approached them and tried to rob them at gunpoint.
After he did not get any property or money from the pair, the robber began firing shots, Bernstein said.
At least one bullet struck the male victim, and a bullet grazed the woman, Bernstein said.
The woman has been treated and released from the hospital, but the man remained hospitalized in stable condition this morning, Bernstein said.
A dancer outside the club early Tuesday who was not scheduled to work Monday night said she stopped by to see if any of her friends were hurt.
"This has never happened since I've been here, and that's why I'm shocked," said the woman, who did not want to give her name to protect her personal safety. She said she has worked at Cheetah's for four months.
Police declined to release the suspect’s name until they finished interviewing other witnesses, Bernstein said.
