Portsmouth School Board chairmain picked for fourth term

PORTSMOUTH
In a 5-4 vote Thursday, School Board members re-elected James Bridgeford to a fourth term as board chairman. They unanimously re-elected Linda Ridenour to a third term as vice chairwoman.
Board member Mark Whitaker nominated Bridgeford, citing his leadership. Whitaker and board members Elizabeth Daniels, Costella Williams, and Linda Ridenour, as well as the nominee, voted for Bridgeford.
New board member Ned McCabe nominated Jean Shackelford for the chairmanship. McCabe and board members Jim Hewitt, B. Keith Nance, Sr. and the nominee herself, voted for Shackelford.
