Project Lifesaver International will present several local agencies today with equipment that will assist them in locating citizens who wander away from home due to conditions such as Alzheimer’s, dementia and autism.

The equipment will be presented to various agencies at 2 p.m. at the Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office at 401 Albemarle Drive. Project Lifesaver is providing the equipment through a grant from the Beazley Foundation for more than $30,000, according to Amber Whittaker, a Project Lifesaver spokeswoman.

The agencies receiving the equipment include the Virginia Beach and Portsmouth police departments, the Suffolk Fire Department and the Isle of Wight and Portsmouth sheriff offices.

Today’s presentation comes as the Project Lifesaver program reaches its 1,716th national search and rescue. The program has a 100 percent recovery rate, Whittaker said.

The Beazley Foundation Inc., was founded in 1948 and awards grants to organizations engaged in educational, charitable and religious activities.

Thank You

I just finished listening to the Last Lecture and I am touched by Professor Pausch's honesty, determination and the willingness to share his intimate thoughts with us. Thank you for being real.

My deepest sympathies to Jai and the kids. My heart breaks for you.
