A small private plane crash landed on the main runway at Norfolk International Airport today, an official said.

The pilot of the aircraft was not injured, but the crash delayed some commercial flights, said Wayne Shank, deputy executive director for Norfolk Airport Authority.

Shank said the plane’s landing gear collapsed as it touched down on the main runway about noon, sending the plane skidding across the runway. A crane was needed to remove the wreckage, and the runway reopened about 2 p.m., he said.
