Forecast for Sunday is more rain, smoke in area

Posted to: News Weather

Sunday's weather is shaping up to be a continuation of Saturday's, with a 60 percent chance of rain in the afternoon throughout Hampton Roads and eastern North Carolina.

The heaviest rain on Saturday was in the southern portions of Virginia Beach and in Chesapeake, where there was up to 3 inches of rains.

Temperatures will reach in the mid-80s Sunday. Saturday, the high in the area was 84 degrees.

Smoke from wildfires in North Carolina and the Dismal Swamp should affect the five South Hampton Roads cities, and possibly as far north as Hampton, Newport News, Gloucester and Mathews counties. Smoke will heavily impact residents of the North Carolina counties of Camden, Pasquotank, Perquimans and Inland Currituck.

The smoke levels in Hampton Roads are considered unhealthy for sensitive groups, and - in North Carolina, unhealthy to very unhealthy.

A Matter of Balance

The North Pole is melting? If so, we must be flooded out, but we're not.

Humans are pumping out C02 by the tons? We must have some happy plants then because there's some nice air for them, too. You forget plants take in C02 and give off oxygen. Now, before you environmental whackos start harping about the logging industry destroying all the trees, don't forget that the logging industry replants our natural resources. It's the developers you should be harping on because they are the ones who plant houses and eventually more people, but then the more people you have, the more C02 they exhale and the happier the plants. It's called checks and balances. That's the way our government was meant to be but somehow it became unbalanced.

Chris

How about this headline?? "In 2005 data from NASA's Mars Global Surveyor and Odyssey missions revealed that the carbon dioxide "ice caps" near Mars's south pole had been diminishing for three summers in a row"

I guess all those people on Mars are driving their huge SUVS around with their windows down and the A/C on. There is this thing in the sky that heats the earth and it is called the sun. Sometimes the sun goes thru cycles and causes ALL of the planets in the solar system to heat and cool.

And if you are wondering where I saw the article, it was from National Geographic. I think they are a little more credible than Prophet Gore.

Pollution is pollution!

PINATUBO.

The effects of the eruption were felt worldwide. It ejected roughly 10 billion metric tons of magma, and 20 million tons of SO2, bringing vast quantities of minerals and metals to the surface environment. It injected large amounts of aerosols into the stratosphere—more than any eruption since that of Krakatoa in 1883. Over the following months, the aerosols formed a global layer of sulfuric acid haze. Global temperatures dropped by about 0.5 °C (0.9 °F), and ozone depletion temporarily increased substantially.

Patriot, you lie

Pinatubo is not pouring 8 billion metric tons of CO2 into the atmosphere every year. Nice try, though.

Pinatubo, man made?

Mt Pinatubo has it's largest eruption in 35,000 years (scientific guessimate) and pollutes the atmosphere more in 24 hours than man in the 20th century. It is a shame all those tribes living in the jungle and the small villages around Pinatubo caused this with their selfish habits!
BAN VOLCANOES!

Cows and pigs etc emit methane gas, vegetables and plants clean the air we breath. Who is doing the damage with their eating habits?

Global warming is real

California is experiencing its driest year on record. Over 800 square miles of California forests have burned so far, and the real fire season doesn't even start until late July. Most of the North Pole has melted. The level of CO2 in the atmosphere has risen by one third in the last 200 years. CO2 is now at the highest level ever recorded, and the Antarctic ice core record goes back 600,000 years. Every year we pump 8 billion metric tons of CO2 into the atmosphere, and that number is rising as China and India industrialize.
Most of the "scientists" who were global warming deniers turned out to be paid by Exxon and the Petroleum Institute. Two years ago Exxon realized they were wrong and stopped funding those scientists. Still, some people continue to parrot them. Even Bush the Lesser now believes in global warming. Man-made global warming is real my friends.

I know we need the rain but . . .

Who would have ever figured on this wet of a July 4th weekend? You can kiss what tourist dollars we might have gotten goodbye. But at least with all the rain, those nuts that might have started more fires with their fireworks won't be shooting off as many and if they do, the chances of them starting more fires will be diminished. Got to look on the bright side . . .

saturday night entertainment!

LOL!

"but I guess you don't believe in extinction either? "

But, yes I do, because I miss the dinosaurs! Polar Bears extinct? Could be - ever heard of 'survival of the fittest'? Polar Bears will adapt, evolve, or die...as will humans. Eventually.

Climate change real? Of course. If we do everything that Al Gore and the tree huggers tell us to will climate change still be real? Of course. (remember them dinosaurs??)

I don't doubt that climate change does, will, and has always occured. What I doubt is that I cause it by driving, blogging, or exhaling.

amazing

New world order? Now who's drinking the koolaid? It's amazing how some people still have their luddite heads in the sand. Welcome to the new world order where those who are not environmental will pay out the nose for their lifestyle. So what if we drill off the coast..do you know what that oil will be worth when it comes up? That’s right, the exact same as the Chinese oil. You think they'll charge you a penny less because it was easier for them to get? Think again.

The era of the overly macho, block-headed, all muscle and no brains wanna-be cowboy who thinks that protecting the very things that sustain life on our planet is "tree-huggin" is over. He will be gone the way of the Dodo bird...but I guess you don't believe in extinction either? The era of 2 or even 3 dollar gas is over. Welcome to the new world order where men of thought and reason and who hug tress and thier kids will be the ones who rule. Obama in

cyclical

so by your logic you are saying if it happened once it will happen again? so, how much longer until the dinosaurs roam the earth again? the truth is that the fires that are spread across our country are much hotter and much more expansive than they have ever been. its not about liberal/conservative anymore. while the jury is out on whether there is global warming and man's contribution to that phenomenon, the vast majority of reputable scientists will tell you that we do need to reduce our carbon emissions or we will be leaving a giant mess for our children and our children's children to deal with.

Maybe I'm Amazed at the Way You....

It amazes me how there's always someone that complains about the comments, but than offers no solutions to the subject at hand...

Why does everything come down to Liberals and Rep talk?

It amazes me how a simple story such as a smoke forecast can turn into some BS discussion about global warming and liberals. Find something better to do, such as maybe getting involved with the system rather than trying to link every single news story to your own opinions on politics.

It's a natural cycle.

You're right on union man. The earth warms and cools as a natural cycle. A few hundred-thousand years ago the north and south pools were opposite. They will do so again in the future. Get a news headline from the 70's and it will read "the next ice age is here". The terrorist called environmentalist are just causing fear so we "buy green" products. Well guess who gets rich when we spend more cash on "green" products. They do! What a gimmick.

So in the name of the environment, we do not tap into our own oil supplies, but we let the Chinese drill 60 miles off our coast to get our oil. They will then sell it back to us. But we can all feel good about it as we hug our trees…..

Less smoke

Home A/Cs will suck smoke into your home through exhaust fan outlets.
You can reduce the intake by shutting bathroom doors and covering
kitchen outlets.

Line Up For Your Koolaid

You people have swallowed the liberal Koolaid. Wildfires have been burning for years in California. I know. I remember reading about them in the news 40 some odd years ago. Then the consensus was the earth was getting colder. It's just a way the new World Order of Europe seeks to obtain a chokehold on the sheeple. Have you guy had your Koolaid. Please line up and take some.

Oh, another thing. It's summer time. It's usually very hot in the summer.

Joanie06

Both...

Evidently it hasn't gotten bad enough yet

We've got a new fire burning in Chesapeake, courtesy of some idiots with fireworks in a soybean field. It hasn't gotten bad enough until everyone gets the message.

I would say.....

I say our attitudes will "get" us before fires or floods. But that's just me....

Chris

I thought we were all going to die from extreme flooding while the ice caps melt. Which one is it? Fires or flooding???

Global warming

As the earth warms there will be more drought and more wildfires. California has already had more wildfires than ever before this early in the fire season.
