The Spirit of Nantucket runs aground - again

Posted to: Business

The Spirit of Nantucket, which struck a 55-ton bundle of wood in November while cruising the Intracoastal Waterway in Virginia Beach, ran aground again - this time in Alaska.

The 207-foot vessel, now named the Spirit of Glacier Bay, grounded Monday morning on a sandbar near Alaska's Glacier Bay National Park, according to news reports. The Coast Guard dispatched aircraft and rescue boats to the vessel, which had 51 people aboard, none of whom were seriously injured. After about nine hours, the ship was refloated. Passengers were taken to an airport.

A Coast Guard spokesman said it's not clear whether the grounding was caused by human error or a vessel malfunction, the reports said.

Seattle-based cruise line Cruise West owns the ship.

Name Change

Maybe they should change it to Spirit of Titanic.

Name Change

The reason they ran aground again was due to the fact they changed the name of the boat. Any boater knows you never change the name of a vessel - its BAD LUCK!
