Suffolk City Council votes to buy back land from Obici project

SUFFOLK

The City Council voted Wednesday to buy back the land for the stalled Obici Place development project.

Robinson Development Group, the developer behind the project, asked the city Friday to exercise its repurchase option after a deal with a movie theater operator fell through. The project also called for at least 225 residential units and office and retail space on 26 acres on North Main Street.

The city chose Robinson Development Group in 2006 to develop the former hospital site. It will buy back the land with the same amount it has received so far in the deal, which was to total $4.5 million.

City Council

I guess the reason we are no longer called "Surprising Suffolk" is because anything City Council does is no longer surprising. Forgive me if I am incorrect in my thinking, but isn't City Council supposed to make decisions which are in the best interest of the citizens of Suffolk? I hope I live long enough to see this happen!
It will be interesting to see where the council will find the money to "re-purchase" this property, and after re-purchasing, just exactly what they will do with it!
