Tangier Island

Posted to: Historic Sites Virginia

There's more traffic on the waters surrounding the quaint fishing village than on its streets. Zig zag through the town or bike its perimeter. Mountain bike not required as the landscape is flat and small. Established by Capt. John Smith in 1608, Tangier is 3 1/2-miles long and 1/2-mile wide.

Tangier Island
12 miles from Crisfield, Md., the closest mainland port.

Tangier Island

Tangier Island is a different way of life. One that takes you back in a quiet time, time you can have to talk to your neighbors, talk a walk, leave your troubles back on the main land, and just relax on Tangier Island.
