Today's likely to be dry, but look out on Saturday, Sunday

Posted to: Weather

Smoke forecast
Areas of smoke early in the morning in Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth and Norfolk, as well as in the North Carolina counties of Camden, Pasquotank, Perquimans and inland Currituck.

Hampton Roads
Unhealthy for sensitive groups.

North Carolina
Unhealthy to very unhealthy through the weekend in all or parts of Camden, Currituck, Hyde, Pasquotank, Perquimans and Tyrrell counties. Unhealthy for sensitive groups in Chowan, Dare and Gates counties.

The only showers in the sky today should be of the fireworks-induced variety.

The National Weather Service is calling for a less than 20 percent chance of rain today.

But it's best to wear your breeziest outfit and dressiest flip-flops if you go to a fireworks display tonight: meteorologists are predicting highs in the mid-90s.

There will be some smoke today from wildfires, particularly in Norfolk and Chesapeake, said Jennifer McNatt, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Wakefield.

The rest of the weekend holds the prospect of rain. Saturday and Sunday, the chance of precipitation increases to 40 percent.

There won't be any relief from the heat until Sunday.

Highs on Saturday will be around 90 degrees; on Sunday, from 85 to 90.
