A federal appeals court dropped CBS’ indecency charges today that fined the network for Janet Jackson’s ‘wardrobe malfunction’ during Super Bowl 2004. During a performance with Justin Timberlake, Janet Jackson's right breast was accidently given full but 'fleeting' exposure during the half-time show. Within a week of the broadcast, video delay on live events has been employed to catch such hiccups... like the one below.
Amy Winehouse's husband gets 27 months in jail
A judge on Monday sentenced Amy Winehouse's husband to 27 months in jail for assault and obstructing justice. Blake Fielder-Civil has admitted beating up pub manager James King in a barroom fight in 2006 and then offering him $400,000 to keep quiet about it. Passing sentence at Snaresbrook Crown Court, Judge David Radford told Fielder-Civil he had behaved in a "gratuitous, cowardly and disgraceful" way. Winehouse wasn't in court when her husband was sentenced.
`Dark Knight' sets weekend record with $155.34M
Batman has sent Spidey packing as king of Hollywood's box-office superheroes. "The Dark Knight" took in a record $155.34 million in its first weekend, topping the previous best of $151.1 million for "Spider-Man 3" in May 2007 and pacing Hollywood to its biggest weekend ever, according to studio estimates Sunday. Christian Bale, who plays Bruce Wayne/Batman said of the impressive box-office take: "It's Monopoly money to me – I can't even comprehend it."
Angelina leaves hospital with newborns
Angelina Jolie and her twins left the hospital early Saturday – a week since she gave birth to Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline. There were only a few journalists camped outside the Fondation Lenval hospital in Nice, France, early Saturday morning but even they didn't know for sure when Jolie slipped out of the hospital with her twins at 4 a.m. local time.
Starbucks closures cause devastation
Starbucks customers have begun writing letter campaigns, circulating petitions and just getting all caffed up over the company's recent announcement to close 600 stores world-wide. One Manhttan-ite and software development manager says: "Now that it's going away, we're devastated." Her company recently consolidated buildings and staff. The promise of a Starbucks building was a way to get employees psyched for work.
