Where does ODU rank?

A few things found while trolling the internet (did I mention that summer was a slow time for news?):

Ranking hoops programs

ESPN is ranking the nation’s men’s basketball programs http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=3481843#caa.

ODU comes in tied at No. 76 with Montana (Blaine Taylor’s former school) and UAB (a Monarchs opponent this coming season). Two more of Old Dominion’s opponents this season aren’t far behind: No. 79 Winthrop and No. 80 Bucknell.

The Monarchs are the top-rated team in the CAA, followed by Drexel (93), VCU (94) and George Mason (100).

Got tix?

In case you missed the GIANT reminder on odusports.com: The last day to order basketball season tickets and to make a Big Blue Club donation to qualify for re-seating is Aug. 15.

Top 25?

There are plenty of reasons to think the Monarchs will climb higher this season, maybe into the top 25 (Exhibit A: Gerald Lee, last year's leading scorer and rebounder). The roster is young and features only one senior, but even the youngsters played valuable minutes last season. There are questions in the backcourt, chief among them whether ODU can replace the 127 3-pointers that the outgoing trio of Brian Henderson, Brandon Johnson and Abdi Lidonde poured in. (The rest of the team combined for only 85 treys.) Not sure if incoming frosh Trian Iliadis is ready to leap to the rescue right away.

Also, we'll have to see what the non-conference schedule looks like. ODU is still working on it, although we know Winthrop, UAB, Charlotte, Richmond and Bucknell are locks at this point.

Wow

Wow, impressive already. What an exciting season it's going to be. Like your being on top of things. What's his name was real slow at this stuff and never enough of it. So, what is your take on ODU's chances of finally breaking the top 25 this year? More, more, more.
