Woollard's penalty kick sparks Piranhas' victory

OCEAN CITY, N.J.

Tom Woollard scored on a penalty kick in the 43rd minute Sunday to give the PDL Hampton Roads Piranhas a 2-1 victory against the Ocean City Barons.

The Piranhas (6-6-2) were awarded the penalty kick when Rob Sgueglia was tripped on a scoring opportunity.

Jeremy Ortiz scored in the fifth minute to give the Barons (5-4-4) the early lead. Sgueglia tied the match in the 31st minute.

The Piranhas play at Northern Virginia at 6 p.m. Friday.

 

W-league Piranhas tie

TAMPA, Fla.

Joy Nsubuga's goal 15 minutes into the second half gave the W-League Hampton Roads Piranhas a 1-1 tie with the Tampa Bay Hellenic.

Laura Baeza scored in the ninth minute to give Tampa Bay (7-3-2) a 1-0 advantage.

The Piranhas (4-6-1) were outshot 29-9. Hampton Roads keeper Victoria Johnson recorded 14 saves.

The Piranhas (4-6-1) play the West Virginia Illusion in Morgantown, W.Va., at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
