Police arrested two Yorktown women on allegations that they robbed two men on Thursday, a police statement said.

The men, ages 23 and 18, told police they were sitting in a car in the 100 block of Candlewood Way when two women “attempted to prostitute themselves,” the statement said.

The men told police they declined the offer. They said the women left, but returned about 10 minutes later with a handgun and knife and demanded money.

“The females were able to get several hundreds of dollars from the victims,” the statement said.

The men called 911 to report the robbery, said Officer Holly Tepper, a spokeswoman for police.

Police found two women behind the Food Lion in the 11700 block of Jefferson Avenue and charged with each with robbery, using a firearm in the commission of a felony and conspiracy to commit robbery.

Police identified the women as Mary Jernigan, 25, of the 200 block of Jernigan Lane and Elizabeth Winget, 25, of the 100 block of Beecham Drive. Winget also was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.

The investigation into the suspects is continuing, Tepper said.
