The Norfolk Tides scored four runs in the first inning, then held on to defeat the Columbus Clippers 4-3 on Thursday night in Ohio.
Norfolk (54-65) scored all four runs with two out. Tike Redman singled to open the inning, then stole second with one out. With two out, Oscar Salazar singled to score Redman, with Salazar moving to second on a throw home.
Mike Costanzo then singled home Salazar, Jeff Fiorentino walked and Chris Roberson tripled to score Costanzo and Fiorentino.
Columbus (61-57) scored one run in the second and two in the fourth off Craig Anderson (3-8), who lasted five innings.
The Clippers put runners on in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings.
With runners on first and second in the sixth, Brian Burres got Leonard Davis to line out to Redman in leftfield to end the inning. In the seventh, Kameron Mickolio struck out Roger Bernadina with a runner on second and two out.
Jim Miller pitched a perfect ninth inning for his sixth save.
Salazar went 2 for 3, raising his average to .314. Costanzo went 2 for 4.
