Cape Hatteras' Bodie Island Spit reopens to off-road vehicles

Posted to: Crime News North Carolina

Just in time for the big Labor Day weekend, the Bodie Island Spit at Oregon Inlet in North Carolina reopened today to off-road vehicles.

The area, one of the most popular ORV fishing spots in Cape Hatteras National Seashore, has been closed to beach drivers and pedestrians for most of the summer to protect nesting shorebirds as required in a legal agreement.

Cape Point, Hatteras Inlet, South Beach and South and North Points on Ocracoke Island - other favorite ORV beaches - have also been reopened in recent weeks.
