Firefighters extinguished a car fire that spread to two other vehicles inside the south parking garage at MacArthur Center this afternoon.  No one was hurt.

Dispatchers were called about the fire at 12:58 p.m. and arrived about two minutes later to find the car ablaze, said Battalion Chief Todd Cannon, a fire department spokesman.

Shortly after the first firefighters arrived, they found that the fire had spread to the second and third vehicles, said Battalion Chief Paul Savage.

By 1:30 p.m., the fire was out, Cannon said.

No smoke went inside the mall and no one was evacuated, Cannon said.

The fire was thought to be caused by a mechanical problem under the hood of the car that caught fire, Savage said. That car was a total loss and the other two were damaged.

Police blocked off part of City Hall Avenue, said Sgt. Jim Robertson, a police spokesman.
