Lane closures to slow commute this week on Chesapeake Expressway

Posted to: Chesapeake News Transportation and Traffic

Lane closures could slow the commute this week on the Chesapeake Expressway.

The closures, scheduled to last through Friday, will begin each day at 8 a.m. end at 5 p.m., a city news release says.

The paving will happen in the northbound right lane near exit 10A and the Hanbury Road exit, the release says.

The southbound lanes near the Northwest River Bridge also will have closures, the release says.

Motorists also were reminded to watch for heavy equipment and delays in those areas.

Bad Planning again

As well as paving during the day, it is also the major route to the Outer Banks being repaved on the last week of summer. Couldn't wait another week until after Labor Day???

Why Not at Night??

Why are they paving during the day?? This road is practically deserted at night. Who's brlliant idea was it to pave northbound during morning rush hour??? The only time northbound on this road is more congested than 8am daily is summer saturdays when the outerbanks crowd checks out.

It is decisions like this that make the public have NO RESPECT for the people that run government!!! The whole darn expressway could be paved during the night and effect almost no one. Instead, you close lanes for paving on one of the few passages out of Great Bridge at 8 am?? Then keep them closed during the day-time hours when the road has traffic volume as opposed to overnight when its dark and empty?? OMG!!

8AM-5PM???

Why can't this be done during off peak hours? We don't need extra planned delays on our way to work.

Paving already?

Paving the expressway already?..I thought this expressway was fairly new...Oh, I forgot, have to use up the taxpayers money and keep the road construction folks happy...
