NORFOLK
When Michelle Obama comes to town Wednesday to campaign for her husband, Sen. Barack Obama, she’ll also meet with a group of military spouses.
Michelle Obama will host a roundtable discussion with the spouses in Norfolk to discuss the challenges they face, according to a news release from the Obama campaign.
Other roundtable discussions were held by Michelle Obama during the primary, according to the campaign. The discussions focused on women’s issues. She also hosted roundtable discussions with military spouses in Fort Bragg, N.C., and Hopkinsville, Ky.
Wednesday night, she will appear at a fundraiser at Harrison Opera House hosted by Gov. Timothy M. Kaine and Virginia first lady Anne Holton, the campaign announced last week.
The fundraiser will include a performance by Bruce Hornsby.

Embarrassed? I doubt it. I
Embarrassed? I doubt it. I pride myself on being able to see the positive qualities in people. That being said, there is something that stands out about Obama. I can't put my finger on it, but it's definitely not his "star" power or the fact that he's black. If i'm wrong, i'm wrong. Things happen; however, i have a gut feeling that he's the one to FINALLY take this beautiful country into the next millenium. (something Bush Baby has failed at miserably)
twomiler2
You and I see the same thing when it comes Bush, and that's not saying much.
Bush, A Leader
Who led us into economic chaos, an unending, unnecessary war,(because he went after the wrong people & nation), & worldwide disrespect; who ignored the Constitution, acted as if he & his cronies are above the law, etc. Any one willing to follow George W. Bush, across a street, least of all still considers him, in any sense, a leader, well, I will pray for all of you. I have no concept, as to how others can see "W" as any thing other than the worse thing to ever happen to our nation. That's me, though, maybe some of you can see something I just can't.
the negative is so obvious
"its just sad that instead of finding the positives in either candidate, people just want to focus on the negatives..."
The negative is so obvious for each candidate it CAN'T be overlooked. That's not being negative that's being realisitc.
Falling for someone…again
"Your falling for something you will be embarrassed about later."
We already did that twice with President Bush. I am willing to give the left a shot at it. Fair and balanced, don't you know.
Moderate and openminded?
"Uhhh lets see, how can i put this delicately???
THE COUNTRY IS ALREADY MESSED UP!!!! "
Um, like, we noticed. So you are suggesting we hire someone who cannot even explain their own ideas to do the job for us? I think not. Your falling for something you will be embarrased about later.
Orion, c'mon
Orion, c'mon now....honestly, my friend....can you sit there with a straight face and repeat what you typed earlier??? I have a horrible memory, but i seem to remember you saying something about a certain individual could do great harm to the country??? Uhhh lets see, how can i put this delicately???
THE COUNTRY IS ALREADY MESSED UP!!!!
haha....turn on the news, get on the internet, step outside and look around, listen to commentary from people who are OUTSIDE of the US....this country is screwed....unless an open-minded, even-tempered individual with a decent sense of intelligence comes into the picture to stop the bleeding...
its just sad that instead of finding the positives in either candidate, people just want to focus on the negatives...
Positivity breeds positivity, Negativity breeds negativity....i know i sound like a hippie, but im not....just someone who is moderate and open-minded....

"Bob Barr's running mate is Wayne Allen Root."
So what!
You don't really think they stand a change at winning this election?
BTW Don
How in the world did you reconcile Barr's social stands. Landsakes alive, the man was against everything the Libertarian has on his social platform…and he was against them big time. Birth control, abortion, stem cell, gay anything, draconian drug laws, forced prayer in schools…I think he hit them all. Talk about government interference with your lives.
Don
I agree with most planks of the Libertarian Party's social platform, but I have trouble with a total regulatory vacuum in a global economy run by multinational corporations. In a small town with small business owners, professionals and other skilled workers, Libertarian economic philosophy probably works fine. On a large scale, however, the lack of oversight in banking, brokerage houses, worker safety, product safety plays havoc.
Our present mess was brought about by either deregulating or lack of enforcement of existing regulations in banking (much like the S&L debacle).
Also, you can look at the mess in China and Russia when it comes to unfettered market forces determining environmental issues.
Is the government too unwieldy…of course, very much so. But absent some control, the market forces will crush and create civil unrest among the working class to an extent that leads to dictatorships.
What are the odds that you could make me laugh?
The joke you just told about a sports handicapper and author of such impressive books as "The Zen of Gambling," "The Joy of Failure!," "The King of Vegas' Guide to Gambling", and "Millionaire Republican," being a better choice for national office than Obama or McCain is a hoot.
Wayne Allyn Root has the hair for Vegas, but I doubt he has the credentials for VP. Of course, that didn't stop quayle or bush, so maybe he would be a good republican candidate. He's certainly what I'd expect from libertarians.
Once again, I suggest that every right wing wingnut vote for the Barr/Root ticket.
It will make things that much easier for Obama.
Phooey
All I am seeing here is people willing to vote for the Chosen One because they are angry w/ republicans. You would know if you are a regular reader here that I rarely vote republican. However, I am against Obama for the EXACT SAME REASON I was against Bush: lack of substance. What you all need to realize is you cannot love your candidates. You need to look at the problems and learn how they can be solved in a realistic manner(incl. political). Obama is telling youwhatever you want to hear and changes as it is needed. It's sad to see this happen in 3 national elections in a row. The debate is over, we have really big problems now. Oh, and the person who offerd up the poll results...keep believing them. Your perfect for Obama.
Gertz
Bob Barr's running mate is Wayne Allen Root.
Either of them would be far superior to anyone the Dems or GOP have to offer this year.

Common sense isn't so common. If you research "the opposite" you will find a great deal of damage could be done to this country. If you think Bush spent money like a Hilton on Rodeo Drive, what do you think Obama's social programs will cost?
Voting because you hate a party or a potential candidate (or prior leader) is frightening because it shows how little research one has done for any candidate.
I firmly believe people must pass a standardized test to vote in any election...
Big Deal
Who hasn't met with a military spouse in Norfolk? They are all over the place!
To Ira: of course i know
To Ira:
of course i know that it's one of, if not the most important jobs in the world...i just didnt realize HOW important it was until this guy name George Dubya slid in through the back door...TWICE....
and the fact of the matter is most politicians can't be trusted...but when you're faced with two candidates with this much on the line, common sense should tell you to vote for the opposite of what got this country in this mess in the first place...
What Family Program??
johnl is right. The first time the Pilot posted this story, the headline stated MO was coming here to tout a new family program (like we need another one). Posters to this story need to go back to that first story to see where all of this started. This story says nothing about any family program? So what's the deal?
Republicans and the military
Health benefit cuts, shoddy treatment of veterans, shabby hospitals for injured veterans, opposition to a updated GI bill (for those soldiers who are fighting the "most important war" of our era), inadequate armor, poor planning for Iraq (ignoring military's own recommendations), keeping benefits away from National Guard troops…yes, by golly, the GOP is the soldiers' best advocate, for sure.
And before you blame Clinton, the Bush administration and the Republicans had many years to make changes, but, you know, they just didn't care. It was more important to spend the money on the contractors who were solidly connected to the White House.
Now, our military is stretched so thin that the rest of the threats don't care what we say. Bush now speaks loudly but carries a twig.
So let us not praise Republicans for their troop support. The are merely lapel pin patriots.
All the matters
Obama 47%
McCain 41%
I agree with Gertz. The Pilot doesn't want spouses to see this
...so they repackaged the story with a different headline so military spouses wouldn't easily see the earlier comments. Paul Bucha is a liberal Democrat who supported John Kerry. He has publicly endorsed Barack Obama and the Obama campaign has sent out a press release on his support. MILITARY SPOUSES: Do NOT become a useful idiot by participating in this charade. If you think it will accomplish anything, you're wrong. It will be manipulated to advantage Barack Obama, no matter what questions you ask or what comments you make. Since the law severely restricts Obama's access to active duty personnel and installations while campaigning, he and Michelle have chosen to EXPLOIT the family members of the military instead. Paul Bucha, despite your radical left political beliefs, we appreciate your military service and salute your Medal of Honor. We salute the medal--we don't have to salut
I don't like either candidate, and
I don't like either candidate, and reserve the right to speak out against both. BO is MEDIA MADE, McSame is an arrogant hothead. I don't trust either of them, and I don't believe either will make a good president. I truely hate this election. If the media didn't think BO would walk on water, he would be nothing, and forgotten. If people had any sense McSame wouldn't be their candidate, but then again neither would BO. I will vote in this election, but I'm going to hold off to see who the running mates are.
Ira and experience
A president is supposed to inspire and lead, leaving the details to experienced advisers. Bush had two of the most experienced defense specialists, Cheney and Rumsfeld who were defense secretaries for previous administrations, and yet they could not execute a winning strategy for Iraq until coming up with a surge. And this is after numerous generals said (and were fired for) that we needed many more troops to secure the country after the invasion. That worked well.
The problem was not so much Rumsfeld and Cheney, but rather weak and uninspired leadership from Bush, who should have reigned in two large egos.
Obama and McCain are both stronger leaders than Bush ever was. Problem is, McCain lost all credibility after 2000 when he pandered to the hard right wing. And he is a Republican, a party that has severely weakened our military, economy and diplomatic credibility.
Pardon?
Wildhorses: So your real intent here is not to pursue the truth but to win an argument on the ed. posts? I was simply putting your quote into context. For the rest of you, please read and decide for yourself. The info is there in the links and it is dependable and unbiased. Empirical evidence or gambling? What will it be?
glengatti: I have made no comments against Obama that are slanderous. If they are negative, then they are what they are based on merit.
"i could be wrong, but lack of experience isnt always the deciding factor as to whether or not a person will succeed in their field of choice.... sometimes TOO MUCH experience is the biggest problem"
You do realize we are talking about the most powerful "field of choice" on the planet?
to Ira...
i've noticed over the past 9 months or so you've had negative comments about Obama in EVERY single story that has his name attached to it... im going out on a limb here, but is it safe to say that you're not going to vote for Obama in November??
i could be wrong, but lack of experience isnt always the deciding factor as to whether or not a person will succeed in their field of choice.... sometimes TOO MUCH experience is the biggest problem.....
by the way, shouts out to George Dubya, "Brownie," the rest of the FEMA cronies, "the Royal" DICK Cheney, Karl Rove, Halliburton, "Rummy," etc....
JMO
So running for president doesn't count?
McCain missed more votes than any Senator - even those fighting illnesses.
Not so fast 'Googler'
Here are the links that the information is derived from:
http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/members/m000303/
http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/members/o000167/
These links will outline each and every vote both have missed for their entire career. I naddition, it will list everything you need to know about their observable past in public office. The point was that Obama is inexperienced and unproven. These links will show that. You may need to a pillow for McCain's to be comfortable as it is lengthy.BTW, 110 is is not dependable. 5 out of 6 of the top vote missers were running for Prez. Look at the big picture. I have provided unbiased reading for all.
re: Google strikes again
How about for previous sessions...wait, BHO wasn't there.
Thanks for you show of his experience...
Google strikes again
for the 110th Congress, John McCain has missed 63.3% of votes, Barack Obama has missed 44.8%.
So the facts show WHO missed more votes??
"So go ahead, continue the
"So go ahead, continue the hero worship for John McSame, and don't let facts get in you way."
Using a false perception and then plying us w/ facts you do not have? Interesting strategy.
"Obama was an Illinois legislator, not a babysitter. Get real! Some of you have hidden agendas."
He is one of the least experienced legislators there. He rarely shows up to vote. Per his own admission he is not experienced enough. This apparently changed when he back pedaled on his desire for a higher office.
Political pandering is not "change."
All
"Oh yes! I hope that enough voters can and will put their prejudice aside come Nov.04, and vote for Senator Obama."
"Why is it you will not be proud of this country if Barack Obama wins
the white house? Could it be because his skin is black. "
No, his color is unimportant except we would not know who he is if he were white. The problem is that very little of what he proposes is achievable. He has no plan except to say whatever it takes to get elected. W/ recent "changes" some of you are seeing this and it is undeniable. If you want to vote based on race(per above comments) go ahead. Just do not kid yourself that you are ignoring the basic responsibilities to your fellow man that democracy requires to work.
