Obama campaign to launch national military family program in Norfolk tomorrow

Posted to: Military News Norfolk Presidential Election

NORFOLK

Michelle Obama will be in town tomorrow to campaign for her husband, Democratic Sen. Barack Obama, and her plans include a roundtable discussion with a group of military spouses.

The invitation-only roundtable discussion will happen at Old Dominion University, according to a release from the Obama campaign. Vietnam War veteran and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Capt. Paul Bucha will be at the roundtable discussion. Bucha also is the former president of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society.

Also tomorrow, the campaign will launch "Blue Star Families for Obama," described in the release as a national military families council that will advise the Obamas and help plan events across the country.

Tomorrow night, she will appear at a private fundraiser at Harrison Opera House hosted by Gov. Timothy M. Kaine and Virginia first lady Anne Holton, the campaign announced last week. The fundraiser will include a performance by Bruce Hornsby.

It's sad...

people are still fighting by drawing party lines; as if either party has integrity and honesty as one of its virtues. Most dogs learn after the first couple of fake throws that the ball is still in your hand. Stop going for the fake toss of empty promises and us verses them. Both parties are about as unscripted and real as "professional" wrestling. They love for the people to get into a dog pile fight so that they can climb to the top of the pile off of others backs.
Every campaign in every presidential election of modern history is a repeat of the last one. Having different faces and names doesn't chnage politics as usual. When will we stop pointing at each other and hold our "cherished" leaders responsible to be men and women of integrity, verses men and women who win the fight at any cost? Blindly following emotional leanings is not an expression of reason but of a lunacy that reduces the elections to popularity contests. Can we honestly expect future generations to believe that we held our leaders to the accountability of good character when we vote like lemmings?

"and inject open homosexuality into male berthings" lol

c.b.

You have too much hate in your heart for a group of people you don't know anything about. Not only is that sad, but people who harbor all this bigotry, have to be living miserable lives even if they won't admit it. God bless!

c.b.

"and inject open homosexuality into male berthings"

This country needs to be united not continuing the same old hate and prejudice that has haunted us for centuries.

Paul Bucha is a Liberal Democrat who supported Kerry

Military spouses: Don't become a "useful idiot" by participating in this charade. If you think it will accomplish anything, you're wrong. It will only be manipulated to the advantage of Barack Obama, no matter what questions you ask or what comments you make. Since the law severely restricts Obama's access to active duty personnel and installations while campaigning, he and Michelle have chosen to EXPLOIT the family members of the military instead. Paul, despite your political beliefs, we appreciate your military service and salute your Medal of Honor. We salute the medal--we don't have to salute you.

Not sure about all their voting records...

I will check out the links but I do know one thing about the GI Bill vote. I know that Webb was pissed about a compromise where the service member could transfer to their family their benefit. This was added as a way to keep people in the service instead of bailing after the time served.

So if a service member wants to give the benefit to a child or a spouse they can they just have to serve six years before it can be used and they then have to sign up for four more years.

Now my wife has already payed into the old GI Bill. She has NO plans on going to school. She wants to give the benefit to me or our daughter. But with Webb he states that this shouldn't happen because the service member should not have to worry about paying for school himself or his kid. I ask, what's the difference, if they both want to go to school someone will have to pay...

Yeah, yeah, yeah....

Everything that I have seen NObama in "support" of veterans on is a political ploy to pretend to care for the vets while preparing for or on the campaign trail. Just like Clinton, who was all for the veterans, until he got into office when reality set in. Clintons first order of business was to freeze all military pay and allowances and inject open homosexuality into male berthings. What a slap in the face. NObama is playing the "I care for you" game as well but his empty stance on anything is testiment enough. McCain has voted with realistic budget projections, making extended service a requirement for added benefits, voting against bills that contain massive earmarks or other funding amendments and voting against bills that contain withdrawal timelines (defeat). This is where "experience" comes into play.

facts are this & facts are that

The fact is I don't like either candidate. The Media MADE Obama the Messiah they think he is, and people voted for him in an effort to put a stop to Clinton. Hope you are satisfied! How McCain became the nominee is a total mystery, and neither candidate will make a good president. I don't like MO and I don't like McCain's wife, Cindy. So what do I do? I'm waiting to see who the running mates are before I make up my mind. You people keep on with your "facts", I've just stated mine.

Some "experience" can be very bad experience

Randy Scheunemann, McCain's chief foreign policy aide/spokesman:

- member of PNAC, helped draft 1998 Iraq Liberation Act pushed for regime change

- signed letter to Shrub sent 9 days after 9/11 claiming that failing to respond to the Qaeda attack by going after Saddam (wrong people Randy!!!) would "constitute ... decisive surrender in the war on terrorism."

- Chalabi backer who fed CIA fake intel

- claimed 30 days before invasion "There is no doubt Saddam has WMDs"

- pushed against giving the UN role in stabilizing Iraq

____

Obama: "I don’t oppose all wars. What I am opposed to is a dumb war. Saddam poses no imminent & direct threat to the US, or to his neighbors, Iraqi economy is in shambles... can be contained..."

To the Pilot ...

Thanks for removing the LoyalFolks comment. I was surprised that such a derogatory and incendiary term was allowed on the site in the first place but didn't comment on it so as not to call attention to it. Was a very young person approving the comments this morning? The writer should be ashamed of himself for using such a word.

The facts are, Obama has the better record.

If you'd like to read a comparison of the Obama and McCain voting records on military and veteran issues:

http://momocrats.typepad.com/momocrats/2008/08/republicans-don.html

The post contains links to their actual voting records as well.

When you look at the facts, instead of wild supposition, Obama has been *far* more supportive of military families and veterans. Yes, votes are sometimes tabled for other reasons, but many veterans groups that actively follow these issues agree that Obama has the better record.

ACTIONS speak louder than words. Looking at the facts, Obama has been acting in support of the military, but McCain has simply been talking. Looks like he's fooled a bunch of you too.

Ok

Are we really going to use Obama's site for anything other than verifing quotes he made? Here is an unbiased review of both men's record in public service and the votes they made:

http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/members/m000303/

http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/members/o000167/

Perhaps we should know the votes before everybody points fingers. Do keep in mind many things are voted down due to attached legislation. This goes for both candidates.

Yeah, vote for the "real" sympathizer.

Check McCain's voting record. "Mr. Military" doesn't mind shafting his fellow vets any chance he gets.

Wildhorse

Since it sounds so reasonable to you, how do you think he will get the numbers up to expand? A draft? Offer big pay that would be subsidized from Big OIL? And you won't have to deploy troops to fight the enemy because he'll let the enemy in America. The most resonable thing he has said is to "properly inflate your tires" LOL

Pro-Military, Pro-Obama

We need someone who is more than just talk but who will actively seek concrete ways to support our military - its mission and its people. A comparison of their voting records is highly convincing of who will better serve our military and our country. It is because I support our military, that I support Obama.

Obama's plan is to add to the military

according to multiple sources, including barackobama.com:

Expand to Meet Military Needs on the Ground: Barack Obama supports plans to increase the size of the Army by 65,000 soldiers and the Marines by 27,000 troops. Increasing our end strength will help units retrain and re-equip properly between deployments and decrease the strain on military families.

Sounds pretty reasonable to me, but of course most of the posts here have little to do with reason.

Libertarian Party

Two words;

Bob Barr

That's rich!!!!

I must have missed when he was in the military, because I don't think he was. I know his Ol' lady wasn't either. So what qualifies them to talk about what it's like & what's needed by military families. Man that cat's a good politician, just not a good example setter. He & her are very shallow pools of information. No way will our heros fall for this fake.

Smoke and mirrors

"Smoke and mirrors" That's all this is by B Hussein Obama and his ashamed-of-the-USA wife. Liberals and Democrats have shown time and time again that they have nothing but disdain for the military. This is nothing more than a photo-op for those that don't know any better and/or can't educate themselves without ABC, NBC, and/or CBS.

Go away Hussein! I'm not military, but I am educated and fear your "hope and change and hope and change and hope and......." approach to leadership. Oops, I almost forgot, I fear your spineless flip-flopping on every issue you've been asked about too.

Bruce Hornsby lost my respect too :-)

Interesting, this article

Interesting, this article suddenly fell off the front page...

RE: Look Out Folks

"He'll say and fist bump whatever he has to do to win as will his misses."

If you don't think McCain will do the same thing, you are sadly mistaken.

look out folks

Look out for this scheme, yes another one from bHo! He'll say and fist bump whatever he has to do to win as will his misses. Watch who you vote for.

Why do they think there are no military family programs

or celebrations?? For the 21st year at Fort Monroe;
Kids' Day salutes families with games, entertainment
“Saluting Military Kids and their Families” is the purpose and theme of this year’s Fort Monroe Kids’ Day celebration, scheduled for Aug. 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the parade field inside the moat. Admission is free and the event is open to all service members and military families in the Hampton Roads area. A majority of the volunteers for this event were civilians, how about that. And besides 'grand standing' on the military family backs, visit the web sites where you will find a multitude of outreach programs and efforts. This is just cheap, transparent grand standing.

Ya Think??

sorry adem, I didnt mean to leave you out...... I agree with you as well!!

ya think????

Localfolks.......
Marye24124......
and kstebritz.....are all correct and I will agree 100% with them!

What Family Program??

From the Chigago Tribune, July 3, 2008, quoting Obama:

“We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set,” he said Wednesday. “We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”

Where does he think these hundreds of thousands of people will come from (not to mention the hundreds of millions of dollars)? (And to whom will they pledge their allegiance?) He knows most military personnel have no more respect for him than we did for the Clintons. He knows he's not getting the military vote. So let's pander to the families. Let's offer them extra housing assistance, let's pretend we care, or even know what they go through. Let's offer a new "family program" where spouses, children, and transitioning military can become employed by a newly established CNSF? Michelle is just testing the water. I'll bet there are few people on earth who have less knowledge of, or empathy for the military and our family members than Michelle and Barak Obama; and I doubt a few hand picked people will sufficiently enlighten them.

Barry is going to help

Barry is going to help military families by extending the wonderfulness that is the VA to every single American.

More bureaucracy, less service. Change we can believe in!

photo op

That's all it is.

Yeah right!

As the spider says to the fly!
