Chowan University
A sub-.500 program that's fairly new to Division II. About an hour's drive from the ODU campus, Chowan offers to be the perfect send-up to the Monarchs' start-up program.

Virginia Union
The Panthers are good ... for their level of play. Monarchs fans shouldn't expect any more Division II opponents after this one. It's a one-shot deal and ODU will not be returning the game.

Jacksonville University
Division I-AA in name, but non-scholarship. ODU once had a pretty good basketball rivalry with Jacksonville back in the days of the Sun Belt. ODU's first-ever road football game. Jacksonville comes to ODU in 2010.

Monmouth University
ODU will return the favor in this home-and-home series, visiting New Jersey in 2010. Maybe it will help lay inroads for later recruiting in that state. It should be one of the more challenging games in 2009.

Fordham University
The Rams were a 24-21 overtime loss from a winning season. This is a one-shot deal; there will be no return game to Foreman Field. Count it as a trip to New York City.

Presbyterian College
One of two games against Big South opposition the first season (the other game is at VMI). This is a home-and-home series, with ODU visiting in 2010.

Campbell University
The Camels are one year ahead of the Monarchs with starting their program. It'll be interesting to see what difference a year makes.

Savannah State
A school on NCAA probation. Savannah State just made a coaching change, firing the previous coach for lack of wins. Not that Savannah State has ever won with regularity.

Georgetown
One of the first games that ODU was able to schedule, the Monarchs will visit Georgetown in 2010. Georgetown could have gone big-time with their program. Instead, they went cost effective.

North Carolina Central University
This historically black university recently stepped up to the Division I-AA level. This game is a one-shot deal. There will not be a return game.

Virginia Military Institute
VMI used to be a semi-regular at the Oyster Bowl, so why not start a series with the school calling Foreman Field home? The Keydets will visit Norfolk in 2010 as part of the home-and-home series.
