More than 12,500 pounds of canned baked beans bound for the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia were lost when a tractor trailer overturned in Pennsylvania Wednesday.

According to a Foodbank press release the food was not able to be salvaged.

A story on the Web site of The Daily Item newspaper the crash happened in Selinsgrove, Pa. at about 8:30 a.m. when the truck left the road and hit a tree. The driver was moderately injured, the newspaper reported.

The loss hits the charity particularly hard since summer is traditionally a slow time for donations and supplies are low, according to the release.

Tell me how

How can you ruin a can of baked beans. I can see a few cans being squished. Maybe a few more, but NOT an entire load. I cannot see how each and every can could possibly be punctured.

May the puch line should have read, "They decided to discard both good and bad cans".
