Obama campaign picks Richmond woman, N.C. man to attend convention

Posted to: Elections News Virginia

A Richmond woman and an Emerald, N.C., man are part of a group of 10 people from across the country selected to attend the Democratic Convention in Denver and meet Barack Obama backstage.

Trinace Johnson, of Richmond, will receive airfare, accommodations an attend two days of the convention, according to a news release from the Obama campaign.

Johnson and the eight other people selected to attend will meet Obama backstage before his speech at Invesco Field, the release says.

Johnson is a relative of Elizabeth Eckford, one of the Little Rock 9, the release says. She started helping with the Obama campaign after her precinct ran out of ballots during the primary election.

Johnson also is a disabled veteran and a federal employee, the release says.

Lenny Julius of Emerald Isle, N.C. Julius is a 67-year-old Vietnam veteran who served with John McCain, the release says. Julius threw his support to Obama because he believes McCain is a supporter of President George W. Bush’s domestic and foreign policies.

The other eight people selected to make the trip are from Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Alaska, Montana and North Dakota, Colorado and Florida, the release says.

Give the Virginian-Pilot some journalistic credit for this

The story repeatedly states: "...the release says." Then look at the way the Associated Press is reporting press release items from the Obama Campaign--they report everything from the campaign's press releases as if it is a fact. The VP appears to be trying to do better at impartiality than many media.

This is exciting

Come on-why all the cynicism? Let see - win a trip to Denver-go to a convention that is usually for "party insiders" and be backstage when a possible future President gives his acceptance speech - could be exciting!

Ummm...yeah

And this is news? Only "news-worthy" item here is the fact one of the attendees formerly served with McCain but has jumped on the Obama bandwagon. Again I ask, "this is news"? *yawn*
