Hey P-Town H
It wouldn't bother as many people as you might think...
Let VB reap what it has sown...
If the Navy said to me, "You have to move. We're taking over P-Town, because Virginia Beach greedily overdeveloped around Oceana”, I'd be saying the same thing the people of Gates County are saying.
Virginia Beach caused this problem. I have no intention of suffering for their greed. They deserve to lose Oceana altogether.
Have you lost your mind?
"Maybe we should consider not letting the military defend NC in the event of an attack or other major disaster? Since it's plain that NC residents don't want the military in their state."
That has got to be one of the silliest comments I have read in a while. Harold Jackson, your trophy is in the mail...Sir, you need to take a logic course. For so many reasons.
I know, that is really funny
"Maybe we should consider not letting the military defend NC in the event of an attack or other major disaster? Since it's plain that NC residents don't want the military in their state."
A large segment of ALL of NC are military or are ex-military. Looks like you do not support defending those who have defended you. Besides, keep you money. We don't need it. All of the tourist we are pulling from your area
spend plenty. I think if you asked the average Carolinian(very well armed state)you would find the concensus to be we would be fine. Send them on.
NC doesn't want military
NC doesn't want military bases?! OMG that is hysterical. Especially coming from someone complaining that North Carolinians are NIMBY. HELLO, the other jet base that the OLF is needed for? IN NC. Google it up dude. There are MANY, MANY military bases in NC. Cherry Pt, Ft Bragg, Camp Lejeune, Coast Guard Base in Elizabeth City. Those are just off the top of my head. It's all about YOU, that's the problem. Put the OLF in Va. Then YOU move next to it. And get NO benefits. But hey, you'll be patriotic. You know what? You should come down to NC and walk into any business here and tell the residents how UNPATRIOTIC they are b/c they voice their opinion. NORTH CAROLINIANS ARE PATRIOTIC. VIRGINIANS IN AREAS WHERE OLF IS MENTIONED DON'T WANT IT EITHER. Va Beach and Chesapeake would be NOTHING but po-dunk towns without the military financing their way of life. I KNOW b/c I grew up there and thank God I left the si
Signs of the times
Daddy's answer was NOT "I allowed the destruction of wildlife, environment, natural resources, my neighbors, my community, and everything that represents the life's work of my entire family for the past 100+ years."
If you guys in Chesapeake and Va. Beach really "Love the Sound of Jets" why aren't you fighting to keep it (the noise)? Oh, that's right, you just want the jets, not the noise. The only difference is you sue the Navy instead of putting up signs. Now that's real patriotism.
Here we go again. Some idiot
Here we go again. Some idiot in Va reaping the monetary rewards from having all the military bases financial windfalls questioning the patriotism of North Carolinians who do not want an OLF in their backyard.Patriotism includes speaking your mind. It's the American way Bob.Perhaps if Oceana was better managed and Va Beach and Chesapeake officals were out of developers beds, VIRGINIA would not have the problem it does. Well go to NC, no-one down there matters, just a bunch of farmland. Well where do you think YOUR food comes from? The gall to call NC unpatriotic b/c we disagree with the US NAVY. Too bad Va Beach and Chesapeake residents never stood up and said STOP BUILDING AROUND THE BASES. Instead building around bases continued and continued. And the answer is now throwing an OLF in NC with no financial benefits, only finanial ruin. And we are just supposed to say--Yes I'm patriotic. Brin
Stop military spending in NC
Simple solution..Close all military bases and stop military spending in North Carolina. The NIMBY mentality can't have it both ways. Perhaps when the dollars dry up then they might get the message.
It's a shame that we have citizens in this country who are so self-centered and selfish that they put their own wants above the best interests of our country.
Maybe we should consider not letting the military defend NC in the event of an attack or other major disaster? Since it's plain that NC residents don't want the military in their state.
Bad assumption Bob
Your insinuation that the folks in NC haven't done anything "during the war" is frankly quite insulting. How can you know what anyone did to "support the war" just by looking at them or a sign on the side of the road? I'm a Navy veteran and I support their opposition a new OLF, anywhere. It's our good money after bad, it's a 1950s solution to a 21st century problem, and it's giving the Navy a free pass they haven't earned, especially in respect to practice and jet noise. That's OK, I support your right to free speech. I tend to believe your idea of free speech is only if it agrees with you.
How about some tanks?
Many years ago, I was an M48 tank commander....that's what I did during the war.
Now, Bob....how would you like it if, from dawn to dusk, my four M-48's ran all over all the lawns in your neighborhood, and shot off those 90mm cannons? I might even throw in a few thousand 50 caliber machine gun rounds. They make a nice racket, too.
Sounds crazy...doesn't it? No crazier than expecting people to welcome a new jet base into their neighborhoods. No crazier than intimating that if you didn't want an OLF in your backyard, that you weren't a proud member of our Fighting Forces. Or a good American.
What did I do during the war?
I did three deployments, each lasting 7-8 months, starting with the initial response following 9-11, and ending with the peacekeeping operations that we're still engaged in. I also did numerous week-long readiness inspections in the gulf, as well as provided logistical and oversight support for ships that were deployed while I was on shore duty.
What did you do during the war?
Good for you
If you disagree w/ our stance on the OLF not being placed here you could always stay in Chesapeake. You have your beloved OLF there which the citizens and local goverment are allowing new construction around as I drove by this morning. It looks like the Chesapeake "daddy's" need to check their own closet before peeking in ours.
Signs of The Times ?
It is true, Gates County NC has almost total opposition to having its citizens forced from their homes and farms, many that have been family owned for over 100 years, for a landing field being built so Virginia Beach can keep the money flowing in from Oceana. By the way, when I drive into the areas of Virginia being considered for OLF, I also see a great many "No OLF" signs.
