An 18-year-old was shot Tuesday night as he ran away from an attempted robbery, and police are asking the public’s help finding two suspects.
The two suspects went into the Texaco at 4900 Jefferson Ave. shortly before midnight and asked the 18-year-old and a 23-year-old for money, according to a police news release.
The teen and the 23-year-old said they didn’t have any money and apparently they left the store, according to the release.
A few minutes later, they encountered the two men in the 600 block of 50th St., the release says.
One of the men pulled out a gun and demanded money, police wrote in the release. The teen and the man with him started to run and the youth was shot in the lower back.
The teen, whose injuries weren’t considered life-threatening, was taken to a hospital, said Holly Tepper, a police spokeswoman.
Police were asking anyone with information about the attempted robbery and shooting to call Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
