Verizon Communications Inc. has begun selling its television service to almost 4,200 households in Hampton.
Neighborhoods that can now get the company’s Fios TV service are Aberdeen Garden East and West, Bethel Park, Big Bethel Heights, Carson Heights, Forest Park, Mercury West, Pine Tree Place, Sylvia Estates, Three Chopt Village and White Acres.
Verizon is also selling Fios TV in parts of Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth and Newport News. Verizon, based in New York, delivers the Fios TV and Internet services over a new fiber-optic network that it is building in sections throughout the region and nation.
Verizon must negotiate a video franchise with each city before offering TV service there.

Inaccurate comments--
I am bit disappointed by the complete inaccuracies in a couple of comments below. I thought the Pilot did a pretty good job in their story on illegal aliens with regards to the FiOS installations. As detailed in the stories, Verizon *did not* hire any illegals to lay down the fiber cables. They outsourced all the work to sub-contractors. The *subcontractors not Verizon* then hired illegals to do the work.
Once Verizon was informed of the actions of their sub-contractors they implemented a new policy which requires their sub-contracts to use legal labor.
Well...
I don't know about their hiring practices...but I do know that I want FIOS. I am sick of Cox. Come to Norfolk.
Illegal Immigrants and Verizon
I agree, with the previous post. It is evident that Verizon purposely protected itself legally by hiring illegal immigrants in a way to save money by going through a middleman, the subcontractor. And, what has Verizon done to address this issue? NOTHING. On the other hand, I am sure there are a lot of businesses hiring illegal immigrants.
Refuse to do business....
I will not do business with Verizon until they clean up there act by supporting sub contractors that hire illegal immigrants.
