VIRGINIA BEACH

A Virginia Beach man is facing animal cruelty charges after authorities discovered one of his dogs dead and two others malnourished and flea-ridden in his backyard, police said.

Andre T. Thourogood, 34, of the 100 block of Birdneck Road South, was charged today on three counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty, police spokeswoman Margie Long said.

Authorities received a report about the dogs and investigated on Sunday, when they found the beagles, she said.

The two surviving dogs were taken to a veterinary clinic for treatment and have regained their health, she said. Both are available for adoption at the city’s animal control facility at 2665 Leroy Road.
