VIRGINIA BEACH

Luckiest. Guy. Ever.

It's not an official title, but it will do for Ralph Stephens.

The Virginia Beach man recently won the Virginia Lottery's Cash 5 drawing for the third time. Each time he matched all five numbers and walked away with the $100,000 top prize.

"It's amazing," said lottery spokesman John Hagerty. Hagerty did not know if the trifecta was unprecedented in Virginia Lottery history.

Stephens, who declined to be interviewed, picked up his first jackpot in 1997. Then, in April 2007, he again matched all five numbers and won another $100,000. And now, 16 months later, he's done it again.

Other contenders for luckiest people on Earth include a Chesapeake man who played the same numbers on 20 Cash 5 cards in 2004, raking in $1.8 million, and a Henrico County couple who won $9.7 million in 1991 and then $1,000 a week for life in 2002.

Hmm...

I'm not a real huge Bible thumper or anything like that, but I still actually GO to church... I was in church a few Sunday's ago, and my pastor was like, "You're never gonna win the lottery....and if you do, don't come to me to rub it in my face; just pay your tithe and come to church!" LOL

I donno...I just thought it was funny. No REAL relevance to the story, but then again, this story isn't REAL news either.

Good for him......

I'm happy for the guy. You can't win if you don't play!!!

Good Karma

I'm sure the GOod Karma Gods are smiling down on this fellow. I also hopes he remembers a nice donation to the Tidewater Food Bank. Pay it forward.

Congrats!

I'm just glad to know that someone actually wins, and it's not a hoax. I never seem to get a single number.

Also, it is a myth that people who play the lottery are poor. http://www.lotterypost.com/news/164113
It's like bingo, only you find out if you've won in the comfort of your home without the smoke. It's fun in moderation!

Enjoy it!

Lighten up people

It's his money. He can buy as many tickets as he wants and spend the winnings as he sees fit.

Better to Save & Invest

Most ticket buyers would make more money than they would ever win if they saved & invested the money instead.

How much spent?

I agree w/the previous comment, that it doesn't say how much he has spent on tickets. The majority of tickets are bought by people who are living below the poverty line.

Good for You!

Take stock of your good fortune!

Invest it wisely

Invest that money wisely, make it grow.

Missing facts

The article doesn't mention how much he spends on tickets each week.

I need

this dude to buy me a ticket. Congrats to him.

..but..your name and photo still made the paper

He may have declined the interview.. but his photo and name still make the paper, allowing countless "old buddies" to see that he is rich (at least sort of!)

Congrats

Good for you...

A brilliant man. (declining
