Several roads will be closed or have closures Sunday for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon.
The roads are expected to be open as the last runners clear the closed areas, a city news release says. All roads should be open by 1 p.m.
The restrictions are as follows:
• 19th Street from Birdneck Road to Parks Avenue
• 19th Street from Parks Avenue to Pacific Avenue
• Pacific Avenue from 19 Street to 16th Street
• Pacific Avenue from 16th Street to 5th Street
• General Booth Boulevard from Birdneck Road to Prosperity Road
• Prosperity Road from General Booth Boulevard to Park Place
• Prosperity Road from Park Place to Birdneck Road
• Camp Pendleton from Birdneck Road to General Booth Boulevard
• Birdneck Road from General Booth Boulevard to Camp Pendleton
• General Booth Boulevard from Croatan Road to Birdneck Road
• Pacific Avenue from Rudee Bridge to 16th Street
• 14 th Street from Pacific Avenue to Atlantic Avenue
• Atlantic Avenue from 14th Street to Rudee Loop
• Atlantic Avenue from 16th Street to 19th Street
• 17th Street from Pacific Avenue to Atlantic Avenue
• 18th Street from Pacific Avenue to Atlantic Avenue

I'm pretty sure the road closures are less for security from terrorists and more for security from the absolutely lunatic drivers in this town who would run over half a dozen of the runners and continue driving like nothing happened.

This weekend is bringing in a lot of revenue for VB. So the roads are closed for a few hours, big deal. The race is on a Sunday and a holiday weekend...RELAX! The runners deserve a good, safe and fun course. If you don't like it, go out of town before the weekend starts.
At least we didn't close a major highway
like they did at the Democratic Convention. I guess that's what happens when security concerns are allowed to grow into paranoia. The next step would have been having Army Hummers with mounted Machine Guns, oh wait, that was New Orleans during Katrina.
