ELIZABETH CITY

An unidentified woman was listed in critical condition Thursday afternoon following a hit-and-run crash that ejected her from a vehicle.

About 3 p.m., a red Dodge Caravan was traveling south on Weeksville Road when a blue passenger vehicle pulled out in front of it from Big Daddy’s Pizza, said Elizabeth City Police Lt. John Etheridge.

The red Caravan swerved to avoid the blue vehicle but spun out of control and then flipped five times, Etheridge said, coming to a stop on its roof in the middle of Weeksville Road.

A female passenger was ejected from the vehicle. She was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and was listed in critical condition Thursday evening, Etheridge said.

Two other passengers in the Caravan were taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries, Etheridge said. The driver was taken to Albemarle Hospital, treated and released.

Following the wreck, the blue passenger vehicle fled the scene, Etheridge said.

Police were still investigating the crash and anticipated making an arrest later Thursday night.
