NORFOLK

Police are investigating a motorcylce accident that took place on Interstate 64 early this morning and left one woman dead.

Theresa Leigh Hunt, 50, of Hayes, Virginia, was traveling west on her motorcycle on I-64 at the exit ramp for Interstate 664 southbound just before 3 a.m. when she ran off the road to the right and struck a guardrail, said Virginia State Police spokesperson Sgt. Michelle Cotten.

The motorcycle flipped and Hunt was ejected.

She was then struck by a vehicle that ran over Hunt and dragged her body, Cotten said. The vehicle did not stop afterwards, Cotten said.

Hunt was wearing helmet that had not been approved by the Department of Transportation, Cotten said. It is unknown if alcohol was a factor.

Anyone with information about the vehicle that struck the woman is asked to contact Cotten at 746-2557. Police are looking for any vehicle with damage to its left front bumper.
