NORFOLK

Virginia Beach's Jay Holladay and International Hockey League Rookie of the Year Luciano Aquino were among the players to survived the Norfolk Admirals' first round of cuts Monday.

The eight players released: forwards Matt Auffrey, Michael Field, Jamie Thompson and both forwards named Sean O'Connor; defensemen Jason Beckett and Chris Kaufman; and goalie Nick Boucher.

The moves trimmed the number of players in camp to 29, including 13 that spent at least a portion of the 2007-08 season with Norfolk. Also on the roster: veteran forwards Brandon Bochenski and Zenon Konopka, both of whom cleared waivers after being sent down from Tampa Bay last week.
