Posted to: Taste Test

Laverne Andrews

43, Norfolk

Occupation: Food court supervisor at Old Dominion University

Nominated: Farm Fresh... and my own!

On steamed shrimp: "I love the way shrimp tastes and the way my dad would fix his - steamed with garlic and butter and bay leaves."

Jeanie Misencik

47, Chesapeake

Occupation: Retired Navy

Nominated: Farm Fresh, I know it's not a restaurant, but they steam it up for you right in the store.

On steamed shrimp: Because of an incorrect diagnosis of shellfish allergies, I've only been eating steamed shrimp for about two months. I'm like a little kid. The excitement of being able to order steamed shrimp from a menu is overwhelming.

Charles Glover

22, Norfolk

Occupation Student at Old Dominion University, server at Norfolk Yacht and Country Club

Nominated Greenies, Norfolk

On steamed shrimp "A good shrimp is one that is of good size, perfectly steamed and adequately seasoned. However... a restaurant may have fantastic shrimp, but if it is accompanied by a bland cocktail sauce, it takes away. And let's face it, price matters."

Mark Thompson

56, village of Collosse in Isle of Wight County

Occupation Retired after 34 years at Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth

Nominated Crab Shack on the James River, Newport News

On steamed shrimp "Shrimp is a critter that doesn't need to be fooled around with much to be delicious, just steam, maybe a little Old Bay, beer if ya want."

Julie Childress Beck

49, Norfolk

Occupation Financial advisor with Smith Barney

Nominated Lido Inn, but I also love my sister-in-law Bobbie's recipe of steaming shrimp in beer with a ton of Old Bay Seasoning.

On steamed shrimp "Steamed shrimp is such a social food, one to eat around a table with a group of friends and/or family. Growing up, our family vacation was a week at Sandbridge and we would always have a big, messy steamed shrimp night. It was so much fun!"
