Football: Previewing Monday's games that were rescheduled by storm

These are previews of Monday's games that were rescheduled from last Friday due to Hanna. Games are at 7 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

NO. 7 GREAT BRIDGE AT LAKELAND

Records Great Bridge 1-0 overall, 1-0 Southeastern; Lakeland 1-0, 1-0.

Key facts Great Bridge showed it can move on without Casey Turner, the all-time leading passer in South Hampton Roads history. Great Bridge sophomore quarterback Brad Hudson threw for 142 yards and rushed for 84 as the Wildcats topped Deep Creek in their opener. Lakeland, with Glenwood Ferebee making his head-coaching debut, was impressive in its opener during a 34-7 victory over Hickory. Great Bridge has won the last six meetings in this series.

GRASSFIELD AT DEEP CREEK

Records Grassfield 1-0 overall, 1-0 Southeastern; Deep Creek 0-1, 0-1.

Key facts Grassfield got its first on-the-field victory last week when it defeated Nansemond River. Last season, the Grizzlies earned their lone victory in their inaugural season by forfeit. Many of Grassfield’s players were students at Deep Creek before Grassfield opened in 2007. This has the makings of a new-fashioned neighborhood rivalry.

Larry says Deep Creek, 23-20.

BOOKER. T. VS. WARWICK

Site At Todd Stadium, Newport News

Records Booker T. Washington 0-1, Warwick 0-1.

Key facts The Bookers and Raiders were outscored by a combined score of 74-7 in their seasonopeners. The Bookers have lost theirs last four meetings with non-district foe Warwick.

Jami Frankenberry says Warwick, 25-13.

Larry Rubama says Booker T. Washington, 27-23.

 

NORVIEW AT GLOUCESTER

Time: 6:30 p.m.

Records Norview 0-1, Gloucester 0-1.

Key facts Norview tries to end a three-game losing streak dating to last season when the Pilots travel to Gloucester. Dukes first-year head coach Sonny Merchant had his debut ruined by Hampton in the season opener. The visiting team has won the last four games in this series between non-district foes.

Jami says Norview, 22-13.

Larry says Gloucester, 26-18.

 

NORFOLK CHRISTIAN AT HAMPTON ROADS ACADEMY

Records Norfolk Christian 0-1; Hampton Roads Academy, playing its season opener, 4-5 last season.

Key facts Norfolk Christian plays its first conference game as a football-playing member of the Tidewater Conference.

 

SOUTHAMPTON AT TABB

 

Records Southampton, playing its season opener, was 2-8 last season; Tabb 1-0.

Key facts Tabb defeated Grafton 28-7 in its opener. Since 1996, Southampton has won 10 of the last 12 meetings in this series, but Tabb has won two of the last three.
