ELIZABETH CITY

Former U.S. Sen. Jean Carnahan will tour eastern North Carolina for two days in support of Barack Obama, Democratic presidential candidate, and make her first stop in Elizabeth City on Monday.

Carnahan, who also is the former first lady of Missouri, will hold a community meeting on the economy at 1:45 p.m. Monday at Elizabeth City State University’s Williams Hall College of Business, Room 102, according to a campaign news release.

She also will make stops in Washington, Wilson, Louisburg and Durham, the news release said.

In 2000, Missouri Gov. Mel Carnahan was campaigning for the U.S. Senate when he and his son, Randy, were killed in an airplane crash just three weeks before the election, the news release said. He still won the election, and his wife, Jean, agreed to take his Senate seat and served two years.

No Bama-No Biden

so what your saying laura

laura..

The answer to your question is maybe that the section both articles were found in are local/regional news. Perhaps McCain had nothing going on with speakers in the area during this news cycle. And I have to agree with the notion of why bring up choice rights on this article. As far as experience goes, that is a subjective matter. Presidential historians have come to one conclusion about experience prior to office as it relates to effectiveness in office: it does not matter. Presidents with a high level of "experience" have performed poorly while ones with much lower levels have performed very well. It is interesting stuff for sure. So the whole issue of experience is subjective as what one person thinks is relative another may feel is crucial depending on one's political leanings, religious beliefs, etc. What we need to look at is sound judgement, a fair and open mind, intellectual curiosty, etc. My thoughts anyhow.

With all respect, Rev Spitz,

What in the world does Gov Palin's stand on abortion, or Obama's, for that matter, have to do with a story about the Carnahan appearance? If there are stories about the candidates' feelings about abortion, that would be the place for such comments.

More Pilot bias

Let's see--we have had two stories about people trying to drum up support for Obama. And both of those people have no more decision making skills than anyone else. Now how about some EQUAL TIME for McCain?

nobama

well it may be true that Mrs.palin may have more experience than the democratic nominee, while i must say, that being pro life or pro choice should never be a political issue, this rant has been the libs montra, since i was a kid."if you vote for the republicans there going to over turn roe v, wade.well i'm still waiting! i myself am pro life, still understands the simple fact that it is legal to have an abortion, and for the most part a large majority of americans feel the same, until there is a radical change in the publics view of abortion it should be a mute issue.example prohibition, america love to drink,it was a freedom they cherrished, but when the govt.made alcohol illegal, guess what happened.well look at abortion the same way.underground, dangerous,a money racket, bottomline americas way of revolting.so please do not bring up the abortion issue,it will never be overturned.unless we the people want it to be.

Governor Sarah Palin

Governor Sarah Palin has more experience than Barack Obama, plus she isn't pro-abortion like Obama.
