Franklin police investigating two morning shootings

Franklin police are investigating two separate shootings that occurred early this morning.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 300 block of Grove Street about 1:30 a.m., according to a news release. After finding no one at the scene, they learned that a man with a gunshot wound to the abdomen had arrived at the Southampton Memorial Hospital emergency room.

Norman Johnson told police he was shot by an unknown person while standing outside his vehicle in the 600 block of South Street, the news release said. Johnson, 67, of the 33000 Block of Monroe Road in Southampton County, said he drove himself to the hospital after the incident.

Police received a report of another shooting about 1:40 a.m. Officers arrived in the 400 block of Washington Street to find a 24-year-old man on the ground between two houses, the release said.

The victim, bleeding profusely and suffering from several gunshot wounds, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was identified as Timothy Warren of the 500 block of Laurel Street in Franklin.

Both Johnson and Warren were later transferred to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, the release said. Police said they do not believe the two shootings are connected.
