INTERACTIVE MAP: Drowning deaths at Norfolk, Virginia Beach beaches since 1998

THE VIRGINIAN-PILOT looked at drowning deaths for the last 10 years from the Oceanfront in Virginia Beach and at Ocean View beaches on the Chesapeake Bay in Norfolk. According to the data, 33 people have accidentally drowned in both cities since 1998, 22 in Virginia Beach and 11 in Norfolk. Ages range from 8 to 71, many swimming in areas or at times when lifeguards were not present.
