Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds Wed in Canada
Woody Allen is going to be depressed for days! Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds made it official with a wedding this weekend. Attended by only a handful of close friends and family, the ceremony was held at a remote wilderness retreat outside of Vancouver, B.C. This is the first marriage for both. The couple had announced their engagement in May. Johansson, 23, began dating Reynolds, 31, last year shortly after his split from singer Alanis Morissette, who recently expressed well wishes on her ex's engagement.
Charitable and cool Paul Newman dies
If you were under a rock this weekend, you might have missed it. Cool Hand Luke has escaped this life for good, Butch Cassidy has robbed his last bank and Fast Eddie will won't be hustling his way out of this one. The Academy Award-winning actor with the blue eyes that melted hearts across the world, but only went home to one (Lucky Joanne Woodward! Or was he the lucky one? They celebrated 50 years together in January,) died this weekend. Paul Newman was 83. He is survived by his wife, five children, two grandsons, his older brother Arthur and a charitable legacy.
As Luke, in "Cool Hand Luke," Newman sings 'Plastic Jesus,' a folk song. Luke plucks out the song in tribute to his mother upon hearing of her death. Seems like the perfect clip for us to honor the legendary film star, food entrepreneur (Forget the salad dressings, try his rockin' cookies!) and race car driver... Because we know you've got your plastic Jesus, Mr. Newman!
Heather Locklear Arrested After "Concerned Citizen" Calls CHP
Former Melrose Place cougar Heather Locklear picked the wrong place for a meltdown this weekend. The small-screen star was arrested around 5 p.m. Saturday after California Highway Patrol officers found her parked car blocking traffic in Montecito, Calif., a tony enclave near Santa Barbara. According to the incident report, a "concerned citizen" called police after witnessing Locklear, 47, "driving forwards and backwards over a pair of sunglasses and revving her engine" in a parking lot. The witness then came upon Locklear again on the road. When officers arrived Locklear appeared disoriented and after giving her a sobriety test they determined she was not suffering the side effects of a booze binge. The former "Spin City" fixture was booked at the Santa Barbara County Jail. She was released at 11 p.m. Saturday on $5,000 bail. OK... so what the heck did those sunglasses do to her? Cube wants to know! (That and a list of her prescription meds.)
Heath Ledger's Daughter to Inherit Entire Estate
If we're lucky, she'll get his talent too. Heath Ledger's family has decided to donate his entire estate to the late actor's daughter, Matilda Rose. Two years before his little girl was born, the Dark Knight star – who died from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs in January – signed a will leaving his fortune to his parents and sisters. But Ledger's father, Kim, says they have decided that all the money should all go to 2-year-old Matilda (the actor's daughter with ex-girlfriend Michelle Williams). In fact, he tells People magazine, that was the plan "from the moment my boy passed away."
Homemade hot sauce kills chef who ate it on a bet
A 33-year-old amateur chef and forklift driver died the day after eating his own hot chili after he and friend made a bet about who could ingest the hottest dish. The next morning, his girlfriend discovered him dead in bed. He had eaten straight chilis along with his homemade hot sauce. Toxicology reports are underway.
Sex injury made William Shatner a star
Are you sure you want to hear this one? Veteran Canadian theater and film actor Christopher Plummer – most known for his role as Captain Von Trapp in “The Sound of Music -- blames an injury he suffered during from a one-night stand meant that William Shatner played his part in "Henry V.” The missed Shakespearean part in 1956 made the “Star Trek” actor a star, said Plummer in his recently released his autobiography, "In Spite Of Myself."
Far from cuddly Web comic gets official print job
"Achewood" creator Chris Onstad has published a new book, "The Great Outdoor Fight," based on his successful Web comic, and NPR thought it a big enough deal to interview him about it. Although the characters in "Achewood" are based on stuffed animals, they are far from cuddly and cute. They curse, use drugs and get into adventures involving a variety of obscene themes. Now that you've been thoroughly warned go check out the comic here. Oh, we bet R. Crumb is so proud!
It starts tonight at sundown... Rosh Hashanah 2008, the Jewish New Year. PilotOnline celebrates the beginning of the High Holy Days with a story of a lawyer turned rabbi. Read on.
