Kathy Adams is the public safety reporter for Virginia Beach, covering the police, fire department and emergency medical services.
Kathy has been with the Pilot since June 2008, when she interned on the Military Team. She then became a full-time staff writer in October while covering the business of transportation, including the port, railroads and shipyards. She transferred to the Virginia Beach bureau in March 2009.
Before joining the Pilot, Kathy interned as a business reporter for the Austin American-Statesman in Austin, Texas, and as a features writer for The News Journal in Wilmington, Del. She has also worked as a freelance writer for Latino Magazine, a national publication based in Austin, Texas.
She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in May 2008 with a bachelor's degree in journalism and a concentration in Business and Spanish. During her time in college, she served as a senior reporter, news editor and managing editor of the daily student newspaper, The Daily Texan.
Kathy was born in El Paso, Texas, and graduated from Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, where she currently lives.
