NORFOLK

The Navy will host a motorcycle safety training sign-up on Thursday at Norfolk Naval Station.

The sign-up lasts from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the exchange/commissary parking lot, and is for all active duty military, on or off base, and civilian Department of Defense employees who ride motorcycles on the base, a Navy press release said.

Riders should bring their license with motorcycle endorsement, proof of insurance, registration, state inspection, Motorcycle Safety Foundation basic rider course completion card and their common access card.

They will enroll in required safety training and get a temporary pass to access Norfolk Naval Station on a motorcycle while they are awaiting training.

WHY

Retired military, working for the Navy now. I have been riding motorcycles of over 30 years all around the world with no accidents. Now I will not be able to renew my base sticker without this new course is total BS. What else can I learn? I see no need for another class that I have to miss a day of work for someone to have something ot put on their evals to feel important. What an insult to the states issuing licenses that they are not good enough for the Navy.
