Letters to Editor - bLetters

We welcome your opinion on public issues, in either of two ways. You can submit a letter to the editor for possible publication in the printed edition. The Virginian-Pilot welcomes letters to the editor on all topics, although concise letters (150 words or less) on public issues will receive priority. Letters may be edited for length, style and clarity and writers are limited to one published letter every month. Please add your name, city, street address and daytime telephone number for confirmation.

The other way is to comment on the published letters in this blog. In this online forum, you can comment as much as you want by using the comment box at the end of each entry.

Nowhere to go

I watched the Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon along General Booth Boulevard. The supporters and bands were awesome, and plenty of amenities were available to the runners. This is a wonderful event, and I love how strong and courageous some of the runners were. But, to my horror and surprise, runners, both men and women, were urinating by the side of the road. This was disgusting. I was simply walking along the trail, watching the runners go by, and I literally had to go out of my way to not run into people urinating feet away from me. I hope next year this can be remedied.

I did it

I have had to do this during a race. Trust me, it is not what you want to have to do. Peeing in front of that many people especially while participating in a competitive event is difficult.

In the end it is part of the race. Maybe you should stay home next year? The real world is unrated.

The solution

With all the people out there and all that was going on,there should have been portable toilets spaced along the route. The sponsors and the city should make sure that this is done in the future. The real question is why it has not been done.

This is the best way to handle this...

...so to speak?
Vice writing a letter to the editor, did Ms. Jessica take the time to research the sponsor(s) this marathon? Has she contacted her city council member and suggest/request/demand more oversight of this event to prevent public displays such as this from occurring?
Did she at least get the number on the runners jersey? Taken her cellphone out and snapped a picture? Or is she just ticked off and made this up because she was inconvenienced with this run?
Unless these steps have been taken, it's her word against the world.

Harold....It's not being Prudish

when you do not want to see someone relieve themselves in public. Agreed there were extenuating circumstances, and if you personally want to make allowances for it fine. But Jessica has every expectation not to be exposed to this behavior in a public place. Why of all of the injustices in the world you chose to make a stand for whizzers rights, only you know.

Next time you see a uniformed police officer, why don't you just whip it out and take a leak outside someplace within his/her field of view and see if the police and the judge are prudes as well?

Prudish

Apparently the writer is unfamiliar with a normal body function. I wonder where else the runners could go? All people had to do was look the other way and would not have seen anything.
