Obama's campaign awaiting debate, announces watch parties

Posted to: Elections News Virginia

The country continues to wait for lawmakers to reach an agreement on a financial bailout plan and to find out whether a debate between the presidential candidates will happen tonight in Mississippi.

Advisors of Sen. Barack Obama remained optimistic late yesterday that the debate will happen and announced several watch parties across the state.

The debate is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. and was scheduled to focus on foreign policy.

In Hampton Roads, parties will be held in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Newport News, Gloucester and Williamsburg.

For more information, visit www.barackobama.com.

Following the debate, Obama and his mate, Sen. Joe Biden, will be in Virginia for a rally at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg.

The event is free to the public and tickets are not required, but the campaign is asking interested residents to RSVP at the Web site.

PilotOnline.com's panel of bloggers will post their comments during and after the debate, beginning at 9 p.m. tonight. Join the conversation or read what our read what our group of undecided voters had to say about the debate in tomorrow's Virginian-Pilot.

Register by party

Dont know where in Va you are, but I am registered in Va Beach, by party..

Imagine that.

yes, debate parties

Maybe football parties are all you know, but there will be any number of debate parties around the area for each candidate. GOOOOOO team, I mean Obama!

Crystal Ball?

Midas - since people in Virginia do not register by party, where did you get your data?

News?

Is this article news or an ad for Obama by the Pilot? They have a link to his website. Why not also ad a link to McCains' site? Guess the Pilot wants to continue one sided reporting.

Sad

I can't stand mcCain, but it's even worse, when the OTHER candidate makes McCain look good.

Quite frankly we are going to end up voting for the tallest pygmy in this election.

Parties?

Debate parties? This isn't football! I can't believe people are going to "debate parties"! What happens to the parties if oBAMa loses the debate? Will there be sympathy parties next? So now the election process is becoming a reason to party...That is beyond amazing..some folks will use any reason to throw a party..lol

Better people, not your cause!

So if the debate happens this evening, only the Barack Obama supporters are excited and throwing debate parties? This is quite biased... yes, the article is about the people of Hampton Roads, but there are more Independents than Republicans and more Republicans than Democrats in the area. There are 393,937(27.30%) Republicans and 385,472(26.72%) Democrats in the Hampton Roads area, leaving 450,865(31.25%) Independents and the remainder are your usual non-voters.
The power of media has a great influence on peoples' knowledge, especially news print. Please try to avoid bias by only reporting one half (well in this case one-quarter of the entire story).
Not providing the full story slants perspective in one direction; it is imperative that news organizations report all of the facts. Let people absorb the all of the information and make up their own minds.

if mccain doesn't debate

he will be proving he cannot do 2 things at one time. I wonder what would happen if we is elected president when many events happen at one time and require action. This debate is about the economy, which McCain knows little about. Perhaps he is taking a crash course.

Say it isn't so,

More BHO coverage & no McCain coverage. Where's the eqaul reporting? Not from the DEMOPILOT!!!!

scared

Obama wants the debate to go on. McCain does not because he is scared Obama will over power him. McCain must not be prepared. Obama makes sence in saying why stop the debate the American people WANT to hear from us, they WANT to hear what we will do about this mess Bush is leaving us with. keeping slient and leaving the American public haging???? Isnt that what Bush has done for us. We cannot afford more of the same. I URGE everyone to go out and vote this year one vote does make a difference.
