PETA wants Ben & Jerry's ice cream to use breast milk

After reading the story, I stopped and shook my head. I then re-read the story, not believing what the Pilot actually chose to print. I then had to find my calendar to make sure that it was still September. Because with a story this asinine, it could only have been published on April 1st.

Then I saw the same story on MSNBC and Foxnews. OMG.

PETA has some good points. However, when stupid stunts and press releases are promulgated, we can draw one conclusion. That is PETA consists of brain-damaged, window-licking, loons.

If PETA were serious in their request they would have asked Ben & Jerry's to use rice milk, soy milk, or almond milk.

Do you know why it's called ice CREAM. Cream is the fat portion of the mixture and a necessary ingredient to true ice cream (as opposed to ice milk). Your substitutions would not work and would taste terrible, much like mother's milk.

I had my share of breastmilk when I was an infant and though I have breastfed 2 of my children and am currently breastfeeding my youngest, I have no desire to partake in Cherry Garcia made with something my body secretes to nourish my young. Nor am I interested in consuming the breastmilk of other women.

Because of this article, I bought rib eyes, potatoes with cheddar cheese and bacon and finished it with a pint of Ben and Jerry's Chunky Monkey! I want to thank the cow and pig for my delicious dinner last night!

But seriously, everyone should watch the film I Am an Animal: The Story of Ingrid Newkirk and PETA. It shows the mentality of Ms. Newkirk and PETA overall. You have to wonder how stable a person is when, upon their death, they wish to be barbequed in front of PETA headquarters [as Ms. Newkirk does].

peta is stupid . umm doesnt a female ( human ) only produce milk after being pregnant and last only for a limited amount of time . i can see all the ladies lining up to the breast pumps to help make ice cream . haha hehe ..... no . peta stay off the drugs and get help .

To all those out there who think this is simply tongue-in-cheek or a publicity stunt, it isn't. PETA is a group of seriously sick individuals who, quite frankly, would be dangerous if they actually had clout. I have met a number of members, including officers of the organization over the years and every one of them was loopy.

I think the biggest diservice to animals or the enviroment is the fact that they drain away millions in donations to useful organizations like the SPCA.

Give these people prees time? Not only are they left wing nuts as expressed below, but they are also backers of eco terrorists! Peta in the past has donated time and money to the defenses of eco terrorists from ALF and ELF! The more you press people ignore these types of organizations the less important they become! Please Pilot IGNORE them!

PETA needs to leave Ben & Jerry's alone! That's my favorite ice cream and they don't need to go messing with one of the few joys I have in my life!

I am getting to the point that I cannot stand this organization. I am an animal lover and have many time paid out of my pocket for stray animals to be treated. I cease to be amazed at their tactics and will never again donate to any of their causes. Far left liberals, flakes and flukes!! Do not tell me what I should eat or wear. I love leather and love meat!! I would say more but it is not very nice.

Ben and Jerry do not actually call the shots at the company anymore. The sold out. I saw it on Biography or something like that. The letter was meant to garner a reaction(which it did).

It some way, it makes more sense for a human to consume milk from a human than from an animal's utters. Most people are just conditioned to thinking cow's milk is ok. But I don't like the idea of either for the ice cream. They could have suggested using soy milk or some other alternative.

This is the least credible animal activist group in the country. PETA destroys dogs and cats instead of trying to get them adopted, and then they're concerned about the welfare of cattle that are here to provide people with milk and beef. If PETA really cared about the welfare of animals, they would work to provide a clinic with affordable spaying, neutering, and shots for pets instead of wasting time inventing ridiculous causes. These people need to get a life.

Oh, come on, people, obviously PETA's request is tongue-in-cheek. They're just trying to show how bizarre it is to drink cow's milk by comparing it to human breast milk and playing up the fact that it is an excretion intended for consumption by a baby--and not even of our own species. It really is pretty gross when you think about it.

Human breast milk can infect you with HIV (it's transmitted that way to an estimated 200,000 infants yearly worldwide). PETA's suggestion indicates they either don't know the methods of HIV transmission through breast milk or they don't care if more people become HIV positive. PETA needs to go to school on sexually transmitted diseases.

Besides this being another obnoxious PETA publicity stunt, women who should not breastfeed their own infants are those infected with diseases and drug users (licit or illicit).
Do we see another governemnt agency overseeing this operation?

My first question when I read this was "And where would they be getting breast milk from"?? Let's run a poll to see how many PETA employees use breast milk in their Starbucks!

I respect some of PETA's work but this sounds a bit extreme.

A few years back PETA had a nearly naked woman in a cage out on Colley avenue to protest the circus or something. This is more of the same. I think the same girls they had in the cage should start up a human dairy operation (at least for a photo op). It might be good for the local economy. I might even work there part-time, though not in production naturally. At any rate, at least they're not posting bloody billboards all over the place anymore . . .
