Port of Hampton Roads reopened after Hanna passes

Posted to: Hanna News

The Port of Hampton Roads was reopened by the U.S. Coast Guard captain of the port Saturday evening, according to a news release issued at 1:40 a.m. Sunday.

The Port of Hampton Roads closed at 7 a.m. Saturday due to expected gale-force winds from Tropical Storm Hanna, and it remained closed to boat traffic even after the storm had passed, due to the possibility of additional rain bands and wind gusts in the area, said Coast Guard Lt. Katie Moretti.

Mariners were still advised to use extreme caution while on the water because the tropical force winds, high surf and heavy rainfall may have caused strong currents, marine debris and hazards to navigation, the news release said.
