 SUFFOLK

A 35-year-old Portsmouth man, accused of attempting to have his ex-girlfriend raped in May, pleaded guilty in Circuit Court on Thursday.

When Chadwick Deforest and his former girlfriend broke up, prosecutor Charlotte Purkey said , he destroyed some of her possessions. When she filed charges against him, he tried to hire a hit man, Purkey said.

Deforest offered the man $1,000 to “break her arms and legs, destroy her truck,” and disfigure and rape her, law enforcement officials said. The man went to Suffolk police instead.

As part of a plea agreement, Deforest pleaded guilty to attempted malicious wounding and solicitation to commit a felony. Two other felony charg es will not be prosecuted, Circuit Court Judge Westbrook Parker said.

Deforest, who has been in Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond, will be sentenced Jan. 22.

This is crazy

rape, disfigurement, break arms and legs...and the Commonwealth Attorney's Office works out a plea????? It's time to prosecute to the absolute fullest extent of the law. Wonder what he'll have in store for the next ex-girlfriend, partner, friend, or lover that rejects him??? He sounds like a psycho that should be removed from society.

And, how safe will this

And, how safe will this woman be once the nut job is released? Does her life turn to running, hiding and looking over her shoulder, with her only protection a stupid piece of paper?

Plea Agreements

I'll have to disagree with you on that one stevenm. Plea Agreements are a very useful too for prosecutors in some cases.. I'll agree if it's cut and dry, someone did it, why should we get them back into society early, but many many cases, plea agreements have caught the "big guy".. Have a great day!!

Another plea agreement

Another plea agreement where a nutball criminal gets off easy. It's time to fully prosecute the criminals, no plea agreements! Put them away where they won't hurt anyone else. End plea agreements now!
