Dominion continues restoring power to Hampton Roads and N.C.

Posted to: Hurricanes - Storms Virginia

There were still 1,430 customers without power in southeastern Virginia and North Carolina, according to an 11 p.m. report posted on the Dominion Virginia Power and Dominion North Carolina Power Web site.

However, there were still about 6,600 customers without power throughout the two states.

In all, nearly 200,000 Dominion customers lost power as a result of Hanna.

By 6 p.m. Saturday, almost 170,000 customers in Virginia and North Carolina had their electric service restored following Tropical Storm Hanna's sweep through the area.

The largest number of outages occurred in the Hampton Roads area, the Web site said. Locally, Virginia Beach and Norfolk appeared to be the hardest hit during the day, the utility reported.

Eastern North Carolina, central Virginia and parts of northern Virginia were also heavily affected by the storm’s winds and heavy rain.

Saturday night Northern Virginia was seeing the largest concentrations of outages.

Chuck Penn, a Dominion spokesman, said earlier Saturday that crews were working to restore power throughout the day and would continue to do so.

Dominion said on its Web site that it expects to have power restored to virtually all of its customers by the end of the day Sunday
