Iraq war
You know being from a military family I could really get mad at alot of the comments on this page. I suppose it is just because you are of the hate Bush crowd. Now lets say Obama gets us into Darfur that would be different right, because that is the term the libs. always use, "thats different." Lets look at another scenario, you are walking down a street and you have a gun in your pocket. A man comes running at you and he is waving a knife, are you going to pull your gun out and shoot, or are you going to try and reason with him, and remember your reaction has to be instantaneous. And most important to remember congress and the senate went right along with Bush becaues they to were given faulty intelligence also. I would like to know your take on WWII, why did we go and fight Germany, they didn't bomb our fleet in the Pacific. I guess we could be delousional and think that Saddam would not aid Osama.
This is to Mr. Markowitz.
How many of those Iraquies were killed by terriost insurgents. And how can anyone in there right mind say Iraq was just fine. Really check the facts. I would much rather fight the dead Osama there then here. Can you imagin if the fight was here. There would be so much white flag waving and berka wearing it would be sad.
Victory
I ask you, What victory? There is no Victory in Iraq. Iraq was fine until the US invaded. It is now a totally devasted country occupied by hated American troops.
If you call murdering hundreds of thousands of innocent people victory then I suppose there it is. All that happened is the battlefield changed to Afghanistan where 20,000 Taliban fighters the US allowed to enter Pakistan has surfaced.
You can bet money after the US election the insurgency will continue. Oh to long for the days of Saddam.....
The wars
In this "war" in Iraq, like Korea and Viet Nam, we were not allowed to win. In Korea and Viet Nam, at least we had a defined enemy and battle ground. Here in Iraq and Afghanistan the enemy is ill-defined and attacks civilian targets to strike fear in the population. It's gorilla warfare. We will be fighting this forever.
Political Ploy..
That is all the vote is. Why vote for something that no one doing the voting can even identify what victory looks like? What is the end game? What is the real exit strategy? The problem for the Dems is that they are having a tough time managing a message that makes sense out of all the nuances involved in what is happening in Iraq and what is a reasonable solution. Soundbites, quick quips, partisan hyperbole, false charges, etc are ruling the day. All that obfuscates the real debate about what needs to happen and how it can happen so that our soldiers can come home. What few milestones that were set appear to be voided. And if we achieve victory (if we can ever define it)does thatmean that the terrorists will be less able to act out. I ask this because of the tie made by the Bush Admin that linked Iraq to OBL that helped initiate the war in the first place. My sense is that OBL and gang will continue no matter what exists in Iraq.
Thanks but No Thanks
The 1,267,401 slaughtered Iraqis and the 4,168 American soldiers sacrificed for nothing are not so thankful. Cheney, Bush, Addington, Wolfowitz, Pearl, and Rumsfeld should be brought up on charges of premeditated mass murder, crimes against humanity, and perjury to Congress.
Past time to do some research
The loss of over 4000 of our troops is beyond the scope of reasoning. By now most Americans can see the truth of George Walker Bush and his totally self absorbed ideological disasters that allowed this county to go into war based on the wacko war Mongers doctrine from the American Enterprise Institute. We listened to all the garbage from these zealots, from WMD's, the cake walk nonsense, the "We will be greeted as liberators", the "domino effect" the Mission accomplished garbage, the Iraq oil would pay for the war and on and on. After the war progressed he listened to the same Neocons rather than the generals in the field and fired the ones who disagreed with his nonsense. George Bush has a lot of blood on his hands, to commend someone that was wrong on every issue is beyond imagination.

I absolutely agree...
The short version - "The first myth of management, is that it exists."
If that's a win.....I'd hate to see a loss!
Tom, I'm truly sorry about your brother. I've been to the "Wall" in Washington, and hoped that we'd never have to put up another one.
It has been exactly five and one-half years since we first invaded Iraq, for the WTC bombing that was done by a small group of mostly Saudi (not Iraqi) zealots. Since then, we have lost over 4,100 of our young, another 60,000 wounded, and anywhere from 100,000 to 1,000,000 Iraqis dead, depending on whose numbers you look at.
We've locked up the main portion of our fighting troops and equipment, and have already spent more in Iraq and Afghanistan than we did in Vietnam. If that's a win.....I'd hate to see a loss!
Mission acomplished was for
Mission acomplished was for the carrier that had just returned from its mission.
What is the definition of victory in Iraq today?
I am always skeptical of claims of "victory" since we have already declared victory (remember the "mission accomplished" speech?), and the basis of victory, as well as reasons for the conflict, has shifted numerous times. Remember this is a CiC who sent our soldiers into battle without proper equipment, with his spokesman asserting 'you go into battle with the army you've got, not the army you want', failed to secure ammo dumps, museums, etc (but certainly secured the oil fields), and when asked about the looting, his spokesman asserts 'stuff happens'. I'm sorry, but I don't feel like congratulating the man on this. I just hope that we are able to provide our troops with a sound exit strategy. They've been putting their life on the line for long enough, and they have done their job well, despite the mismanagement from the top down.
victory in iraq?
Incompetent Bush's only strategy for Iraq is to run out the clock and pass his losing war onto his successor.
