Private school football: Norfolk Academy thumps HRA

Norfolk Academy 27, Hampton Roads Academy 7

Scott Heller ran for 98 yards and two touchdowns as the host Bulldogs (2-3, 2-0) rolled for 287 rushing yards in a Tidewater Conference victory.

Alec Dawson, who added 82 yards on five carries, opened the scoring with a 69-yard, first-quarter TD run.

Heller’s first score came on a 14-yard run with less than two minutes left until halftime, staking Norfolk Academy to a 20-0 lead.

Hampton Roads Academy quarterback Will Banning was sacked seven times, and the Navigators (2-2, 0-2) crossed the 50-yard line just once, late in the fourth quarter. That drive was capped by Joel Stultz’s 17-yard scoring rush.

Key stats: NA—Brad Johnson 4 sacks; Zack Johnson 3 sacks. HRA—Banning 8-16-1-97 passing.

Roanoke Catholic 49, Greenbrier Christian 8

Joey Williams scored two of seven touchdowns for the visiting Celtics (3-1).

Roanoke scored on five of its first six drives to lead the game 35-0 at halftime and totaled 257 rushing yards. The Celtics kept Greenbrier (0-5) to 35 yard rushing and 56 in the air.

Key stats: RC—Jamar Brown 3-7-75 passing, 2 TDs passing, 5-29-1TD rushing; Joey Williams 7-51 2 TDs rushing. GC—Jeffery Estienne 2-5-40-1TD rushing.

Lghtning stalls Atlantic Shores-Nansemond-Suffolk game

Atlantic Shores’ game at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy was halted in the second quarter due to lightning.

The Seahawks are ahead 10-0, and the game will be resumed at noon today with 7:50 left in the first half.

Re: Roanoke Christian

The team Greenbrier played tonight was Roanoke Catholic, not Roanoke Christian. Roanoke Valley Christian is a totally different school and they don't play football. Roanoke Catholic is a perennially state-ranked program.
