Crews will close one lane of Interstate 64 this afternoon at the High Rise Bridge.
The closure, from 2 to 4 p.m., also will include a brief double lane closure while crews remove an electronic message sign, according to a news release from the Virginia Department of Transportation.
The closure will happen in the westbound lanes, VDOT says.

A few reasons
1) The closure is on 64 westbound, which is really eastbound (from suffolk to va beach, or west to east, which means it's stupid for this part of the beltway to be signed as I-64 but that's another story entirely), so the busiest time of day for that side of 64 is in the morning. Would you rather they do it at 7 AM?
2) If they removed the sign during the least busy time (late at night) they'd have to pay the workers overtime, which means it would cost more money.
Typical
And VDOT wonders why they have the reputation they do. No one could come up with a better day and 2 hour window to do the work. Fire them all!
I have the answer
I have the answer jessiciab17428 !
It's because no one cares as long as the gas that we waist sitting there isn't coming out of their pockets ! I have been late to work many times because they decide to fix a pot hole in the middle of the day ! Its flat out ridiculous !
bridge closure
Once again top brass with VDOT must be on crack. Be ready for many more accidents tonite while we slow down because of an iladvised closure due to rush hour traffic. And hey VDOT have you idiots ever thoght about building like a sound wall so people will stop looking at the pwetty boatees while they crash right in the back of you. No I guess you havnt that would take some amount of brain cells.
High Rise Bridge
Another brilliant idea made by VDOT..... Why in the world would you do this at the busiest time of day??
