CHESAPEAKE
After Hickory threatened to score on its opening drive, Oscar Smith bounced back and trounced the host Hawks in a Southeastern District game.
On its first drive — which featured passes of 43 and 35 yards — Hickory (0-2, 0-2) drove to the Smith 3 only to have Roderick Benn intercept a Danny Grauer pass to end the threat.
Tim Smith scored three touchdowns for the Tigers; Perry Jones ran for two, including one from 46 yards out; and Phillip Sims threw two TD passes.
Oscar Smith (2-0, 1-0) didn’t give up any points for the second consecutive week. Hickory finished with minus-45 yards rushing and total total offensive yards.

No. 5 Western Branch 41, Nansemond River 0
CHESAPEAKE
Quarterback Michael Brown ran for two touchdowns and threw for another as the Bruins continued their domination over Southeastern District foe Nansemond River (0-2, 0-2).
Brown opened the rout just 38 seconds into the game with a 48-yard sprint down the right into the end zone.
The Bruins (2-0, 1-0), who have won every game in the series over a 12-year span, added 27 points before the half.
Javanti Sparrow punched in a 2-yard TD dive, Brown scored on a 7-yard run and then broke from the right side to the left before heaving 51-yard touchdown pass to Darren Roberts. James Forester capped the first half with a 2-yard touchdown run for the victors, who held the Warriors (0-2, 0-2) to 81 total yards.
Before the kickoff, Western Branch retired the No. 75 jersey of former player Travis Tennessee, who passed away on Feb. 5 from pneumonia.
