Windy conditions prompt weather service to issue advisories

Gusty winds expected today have prompted the National Weather Service to issues several advisories, including a warning about a high risk of rip currents.

The risk of the dangerous currents extends from Maryland to the Outer Banks with winds between 15 to 23 mph today and gusts expected to be as high as 34 mph, the weather service says.

High surf and small craft advisories have been issued along with a gale warning, according to the weather service Web site.

Temperatures today should be a pleasant 73 with a low tonight of about 62, the weather service says. Winds should be 14 to 17 mph.

Saturday’s high will be in the low 70s with a 20 percent chance of showers in the evening and a low of about 62. Winds are expected to die down to about 10-15 miles per hour or less over the weekend.
